How we approach the electrical side
Assess the mast
Check whether the mounting mast is conductive and how it sits relative to the roofline and any existing lightning protection system.
Bond to earth
Where a conductive mast rises above the roofline, bond it to the building's earthing system per common EU practice.
Fit SPDs
Install surge protective devices on the data line entry and on the power feed to the router or antenna supply.
Finish the entry
Route a drip loop, seal the cable entry point and add strain relief so the connection stays weatherproof and mechanically sound.
What actually protects the equipment
Line and power, both
An SPD on the data line alone leaves the power feed as an open path — protect both.
Induced, not direct
Most damage comes from induced surges from nearby strikes traveling in on the antenna cable, not a direct hit on the dish.
Bonding, not isolation
A conductive mast left unbonded above the roofline is a lightning rod with no planned path for the energy to go.
Inside the protected zone
Where the building already has a lightning protection system, mount the antenna inside its protected zone rather than above it.
Both entry points
A data-line SPD and a power-feed SPD close different paths into the router — one without the other is half the job.
Weatherproof by design
Drip loop, sealed cable entry and strain relief keep water ingress and cable fatigue from undoing the electrical work.
