Loxone ecosystem

What goes into a Loxone panel

🧠

Loxone Miniserver Gen 2

Central controller with 8 digital/analog I/O, built-in Ethernet, SD card logging, HTTP API. All logic runs locally — no cloud dependency for core functions.

🌳

Loxone Tree bus

Daisy-chain bus for Tree devices (sensors, keypads, valve actuators). Single cable CAT5e to each device. Up to 255 devices per Miniserver.

🔗

Loxone Link bus

High-speed internal bus connecting Extensions to the Miniserver. Relay Extension (14× relay), Dimmer Extension, DALI Extension — all on one Link bus.

💡

DALI integration

Loxone DALI Extension connects up to 64 DALI ECGs directly. Alternatively, KNX-DALI gateway communicates with Miniserver via KNX Extension.

📱

Loxone App

Native iOS/Android app with room-based interface, energy dashboard, notifications. Remote access via Loxone Cloud or direct VPN — your choice.

🔌

KNX interoperability

Loxone KNX Extension allows full KNX bus integration. Existing KNX installations can be controlled and monitored from the Loxone Miniserver.

Decision guide

Loxone or KNX?

✓ Choose Loxone when:

  • Residential project under 400 m²
  • Owner wants one app for everything
  • Budget is the main concern
  • Intercom + audio + HVAC + blinds from one system
  • Quick commissioning timeline

✓ Choose KNX when:

  • Commercial or large residential (500+ m²)
  • 20-year longevity and vendor independence required
  • Multiple contractors need to maintain the system
  • BMS integration (BACnet, Modbus) needed
  • DALI-2 emergency lighting certification required

Loxone FAQ

What is Loxone and how does it differ from KNX?

Loxone is a centralised smart home system from Austria. Unlike KNX (decentralised, multi-manufacturer), Loxone uses proprietary hardware — Miniserver, Extensions, Tree/Link bus. It's simpler to configure (Loxone Config software), more integrated out-of-the-box, but less flexible for complex commercial projects. We recommend KNX for buildings over 500 m² and Loxone for residential projects up to 300 m² where the owner wants one integrated system.

Can you combine Loxone with KNX?

Yes. Loxone KNX Extension connects the Miniserver to an existing KNX bus. All KNX group addresses become available in Loxone Config as inputs/outputs. This is common in retrofits where a KNX infrastructure is already installed.

What is Loxone Tree and how does it differ from Link?

Tree is the external bus for end devices — sensors, keypads, valve actuators. One CAT5e cable runs device to device in a daisy-chain. Link is the internal high-speed bus inside the electrical panel, connecting Extensions (Relay, Dimmer, DALI) to the Miniserver DIN rail module.

Do you build Loxone panels for any EU country?

Yes. We assemble Loxone panels in Latvia and deliver to Germany, Austria, Poland, France, Italy and all other EU countries. The panel includes the Miniserver pre-programmed with your project, all Extensions wired, tested and CE certified.
