Placement & clearance

Position the Miniserver on DIN with room to route Tree and Link cabling and ventilate the enclosure — not wedged between high-current breakers.

Control-voltage supply

Feed the Miniserver and its extensions from their own control-voltage supply, kept separate from switched loads, so a tripped breaker downstream never resets the controller.

Tree runs & terminals

Plan each Tree run as one 4-wire cable carrying power and data to its devices, and size the terminal block for that run — not for a star topology.

Config & handover

Commission in Loxone Config, then hand the customer a wiring diagram plus the exported Config project — not just a working panel.

4-wire

One cable, power and data

Loxone Tree runs power and data to every device on a single 4-conductor cable in a tree topology, cutting the terminal count a star-wired bus would need.

Tree topology

Devices branch off a shared 4-wire run instead of home-running each one back to the panel, which is what actually saves panel space and labour.

Link to extensions

Loxone Link is the internal bus that connects Miniserver extension modules — plan its run inside the enclosure alongside Tree, not instead of it.

Air for retrofit

Loxone Air battery sensors and switches need no cabling at all, useful where pulling a Tree run isn't practical — refurbishment, listed buildings, later add-ons.

Local logic

Automation logic runs on the Miniserver itself, so core functions keep working without a cloud connection — relevant when you're specifying uptime to a client.

Loxone Config

Free PC software for commissioning: visual, function-block programming rather than text-based scripting, and the project file becomes your as-built documentation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Miniserver need its own power supply?

Yes — feed it and its extensions from a dedicated control-voltage supply, kept separate from switched or motor loads, so downstream faults don't reset the controller.

What's the difference between Tree and Link?

Tree is the field bus running power and data out to room devices over one 4-wire cable; Link is the internal bus connecting extension modules to the Miniserver inside the panel.

Can I mix Tree and Air devices in one installation?

Yes. Tree is wired and carries power plus data on four conductors; Air is a wireless, battery-powered line for spots where pulling a cable isn't practical, and both can sit on the same system.

Is Loxone Config free, and who can use it?

Config is free PC software for system programming. Most projects are installed through the certified Loxone Partner network, though the software and some products are also open to enthusiasts.

How is Loxone different from KNX for a panel builder?

Loxone is a closed, manufacturer-built platform with its own Tree/Air/Link buses and one configuration tool. KNX is an open standard with devices from many manufacturers on a shared bus — the panel-building discipline differs accordingly.
