Battery-Box HVM Large-Scale Storage via Inverter Modbus for KNX Integration
BYD Battery (Build Your Dreams, Shenzhen) is the world's largest EV and energy storage battery manufacturer. BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS (2.56–10.24 kWh, 102.4V) and HVM (2.76–22.1 kWh, 403.2V) are high-voltage modular home storage systems integrated with SolarEdge, Fronius, SMA, and other inverters.

How we use BYD Battery
BYD Battery-Box HVM integration with KNX: BYD does not expose a direct Modbus TCP or CAN bus port to the user — battery communication goes through the certified inverter partner (SolarEdge, Fronius, SMA, Huawei). For KNX, read battery data via the inverter's Modbus TCP interface. SolarEdge StorEdge + BYD: SolarEdge inverter Modbus TCP port 1502, unit ID 1. Battery registers: 0xE140 (62784) — battery power int16 W (positive=charge, negative=discharge), 0xE14E (62798) — battery SOC uint16 percentage. Fronius Symo Gen24 + BYD: Fronius Modbus TCP port 502, unit ID 1. Register 40083 (SunSpec Model 103 AC power W), battery SOC at SunSpec storage model 802 register 40361 (SOC uint16 0-100). SMA Sunny Boy Storage + BYD: SMA Modbus TCP port 502, unit ID 3. Battery SOC register 30845 (uint32), battery charge power 30775 (int32 W). Node-RED flow: poll inverter Modbus every 30s, map battery SOC to KNX DPT 5.001, battery power (kW) to DPT 9.001. KNX automation: SOC < 20% — switch off non-essential loads (KNX group 5/0/0). Battery-Box Premium HVS (low voltage): 48-51.2V system used with Victron, Studer, and other low-voltage inverters — same inverter Modbus approach.
BYD Battery-Box has no direct Modbus port. KNX reads battery SOC and power via the paired inverter's Modbus TCP registers (SolarEdge port 1502, Fronius port 502, SMA port 502) and automates loads based on storage state.

BYD Battery FAQ
Can I read BYD Battery-Box data via Modbus TCP directly?
No. BYD Battery-Box HVM and HVS do not provide a user-accessible Modbus TCP interface. All data (SOC, power) is read indirectly through the certified inverter partner. Use SolarEdge register 62784 for battery power, or Fronius SunSpec Model 802 register 40361 for SOC.
