Italian Video Door Entry and Access Control with KNX Integration
Comelit Group (Bergamo, Italy, founded 1956) is one of Europe's leading manufacturers of video door entry systems, access control, and security products — sold in Italy, Spain, France, and across the Middle East. The Comelit VIP system uses a 2-wire BUS architecture carrying audio, video, power, and data on a single YCYM cable — simplifying installation in multi-apartment buildings. The 1456B KNX interface module bridges Comelit VIP door events (call, door open, monitor answer) to KNX group addresses for lighting and access automation.

How we use Comelit
VIP 2-wire bus: the Comelit VIP system uses a single YCYM 2×0.75mm² cable connecting door station → switchboard → monitor units. The switchboard (Comelit 1082 or 1082/4) provides 18V DC power and signal switching for up to 32 monitors per line. The 2-wire BUS carries analogue video (4MHz bandwidth), audio, data, and power simultaneously — no separate video coax or power cable required. Max bus length: 100m without repeater, 200m with Comelit 6743 bus repeater. Door stations: Comelit 6741W (ultra-slim, IP65, IK10), 6742W (2-button), 6513W (vandal-resistant granite). All door stations have RJ45 SIP extension port for Comelit ViP mobile app — simultaneous 2-wire BUS and IP operation. KNX integration via 1456B: the Comelit 1456B DIN-rail module (4 modules wide, 24V DC) connects to VIP bus secondary output and KNX TP bus. Group objects: door call (DPT 1.001, sends 1 on button press), door open output (write DPT 1.001 to open door relay), call active (1 while call in progress), monitor pickup (1 when monitor answers), service input (DND flag — suppresses bell). ETS6 parameters: ring time 5–30 seconds, door open pulse 0.5–10 seconds. KNX automation example: door call GA → KNX binary output → entrance lighting on. Door open GA → HVAC occupancy flag. Service input from hotel card reader GA → DND mode (no ring during sleep). ViP cloud platform: Comelit ViP app (iOS/Android) connects via SIP extension from door station to cloud — remote door answering and door opening via 4G. Configuration: Comelit ViP cloud account, register door station IP, assign SIP extension to app. For buildings requiring multi-apartment call routing: Comelit switchboard routes calls per apartment. Hotel integration: Comelit 6721WR monitor with built-in relay output per apartment room — relay to KNX binary input for per-room door automation. Market position: Comelit dominates the Italian and Spanish video door entry market. In international hotel projects (Middle East, North Africa), Comelit VIP is frequently specified alongside KNX room automation for combined intercom + automation control. Comelit access control products (ViP access, smart locks) complement the video intercom range for complete building entry management.
KNX integration via 1456B interface module — door call and open events mapped to KNX GAs for entrance lighting, HVAC occupancy, and DND automation. Hotel card-reader integration via service input.

Comelit FAQ
Can multiple KNX group addresses be triggered by one Comelit door call?
Yes — the 1456B door call group object sends a single DPT 1.001 telegram (value 1). In ETS6, multiple actuators can be linked to the same GA — so one door call simultaneously activates entrance lighting, HVAC, and an alarm indicator. Alternatively, use a KNX logic module to branch the call event to multiple output GAs.
Does the Comelit 1456B work with all Comelit VIP systems?
The 1456B is compatible with Comelit VIP 2-wire BUS systems using the Comelit 1082/1082/4 switchboard series. It is not compatible with Comelit Basic 4-wire systems or Comelit IP-only systems (which integrate via SIP/REST API instead).
Can the Comelit ViP mobile app work alongside the KNX integration?
Yes — the Comelit 6741W door station operates simultaneously as a VIP 2-wire BUS device (for 1456B KNX integration) and as a SIP endpoint (for ViP mobile app). Both systems are independent — door call triggers both the 1456B KNX event and the app push notification simultaneously.
