DSC (Digital Security Controls, acquired by Johnson Controls / Tyco) manufactures the PowerSeries Neo and PowerSeries Pro intrusion detection panels — among the most widely installed alarm systems in the UK, Ireland, and Northern Europe. The HS2032 (Neo, 32 zones), HS3128 (Pro, 128 zones) and HS3256 (Pro, 256 zones) carry EN 50131-1 and PD 6662 certification for Grade 2 and Grade 3 applications respectively. Integration with KNX: DSC does not natively support KNX, but the ENF16 relay output expander provides 16 supervised volt-free relay contacts that map to panel zone status, alarm states, and output commands — wired to KNX binary input modules for group address signalling.

How we use DSC

The PowerSeries Neo (HS2032/HS2064/HS2128) uses an RS-485 backplane for keypad and zone expander communication. The HS2LCDRF keypad provides armed/disarmed status, zone fault display, and access code entry. For KNX integration without costly third-party integration modules: DSC PGM (programmable output) relay outputs are the most reliable path. Each HS2032 has 4 on-board PGM outputs (12V DC, max 50mA each). With ENF16 relay expander: 16 additional dry-contact outputs. Program PGMs in DSC keypad menu: PGM 001 = Zone Follow (closed when zone 1 violated), PGM 002 = Alarm Output (closed during alarm), PGM 003 = Armed Away (closed when system armed away), PGM 004 = Trouble Output (closed when panel in trouble state). Wire PGM dry contacts to KNX binary input module (MDT BE-0800.01, 8 inputs): 24V DC from panel PSU through contact to KNX input. KNX DPT 1.001 binary: 1 = alarm active, 0 = clear. KNX cause-and-effect: fire alarm KNX GA triggers KNX relay, hall lighting on full, HVAC off, door magnetic holders release.

DSC alarm panel lives in a separate enclosure (metal tamper-evident lockable cabinet, mandatory for EN 50131 Grade 2+). KNX distribution panel provides 12V DC or 24V DC power to DSC auxiliary power terminals (from 13.8V DC sealed PSU with battery backup). Wiring between DSC and KNX panel: PGM output cable (4-core 0.6mm² screened, screen earthed at KNX panel only) from DSC cabinet to KNX panel binary input module terminals. KNX panel provides 24V DC for binary input pull-up — wire in series with DSC PGM dry contact. For EN 54-2 compliance: DSC Neo/Pro is an intruder alarm system, not fire alarm — do not substitute for EN 54-2 certified fire panel. For integration with genuine EN 54 fire panels (Bosch FPA-5000, Notifier): use fire panel relay output to KNX binary input, separately from DSC intruder outputs.

Grade 3 certification requires additional tamper protection and higher-security keypad codes — confirm Grade 3 installation requirements with NSI/SSAIB-approved installer. For KNX integration: ENF16 relay expander provides 16 dry-contact outputs for zone and alarm status wiring to KNX binary input modules.

16 dry-contact relay outputs, RS-485 bus connection to PowerSeries Neo or Pro panel, PGM programmable for zone follow, alarm state, output command, or partition status. 16A contact rating suitable for KNX binary input module input circuits (24V DC). Each of the 16 outputs independently programmed via DSC keypad programming menu. For KNX binary input wiring: connect ENF16 dry contact in series with 24V DC supply and KNX input terminal — relay closure signals group address change in ETS6. Multiple ENF16 expanders can be added to a single panel for larger installations.

TCP/IP network module for PowerSeries Neo enabling remote programming via DLS5 software and cloud monitoring via DSC Connected Home or alarm receiving centre (ARC) connectivity using SIA DC-09 or Ademco Contact ID protocol. Not a KNX interface — cloud monitoring operates in parallel with local KNX integration without interaction. For ARC connectivity: connects via Ethernet to building LAN, sends alarm events to ARC via encrypted IP path. Install alongside ENF16 relay expander when both cloud monitoring (for EN 50131 Grade compliance) and local KNX integration are required.

Neo PowerG 4-Zone Wireless Expander

PowerG 868MHz (European frequency) wireless zone expander for DSC PowerSeries Neo, adds 4 wireless zones per expander, AES-128 encrypted two-way communication, for hybrid wired/wireless alarm installations in retrofit projects where cable routing is not feasible. Wireless detectors (PIR, door contacts) pair to PG9904P, which connects to Neo panel via RS-485 bus — wireless zones appear as standard zones in panel programming and can be used for KNX PGM follow outputs identical to wired zones.

How do you wire DSC PGM relay outputs to KNX binary inputs?

DSC PGM (Programmable Output) relay outputs on the HS2032 are open-collector outputs (not potential-free relay contacts) — they switch 12V DC from the panel auxiliary supply when active. Wire: DSC auxiliary +12V to KNX binary input module 24V supply rail via step-up converter, OR use a DSC relay output expander (ENF16) which provides genuine dry-contact (volt-free) relay outputs rated for 5A 250V AC. For KNX binary input modules (MDT BE-08XX, Siemens 5WG1 138) that require 24V DC input: wire ENF16 dry contact in series with 24V DC panel supply and KNX input terminal. On DSC PGM activation: relay closes, 24V DC flows through contact, KNX input detects active state, sends DPT 1.001 = 1 telegram to configured group address.

Is DSC PowerSeries certified for use alongside KNX fire alarm systems?

DSC PowerSeries Neo/Pro is certified as an intrusion detection system (EN 50131-1, Grade 2/3) — it is NOT certified as a fire detection system (EN 54-2). Never substitute DSC for a fire alarm panel, even if zone detectors include smoke detection capability. For KNX buildings requiring integrated fire detection: install a separate EN 54-2 certified fire alarm panel (Bosch FPA-5000, Notifier ID3000, Advanced MxPro 5) with relay module outputs to KNX binary inputs for cause-and-effect. DSC outputs can then supplement KNX with intruder zone status alongside the fire panel. The two systems should have separate panels, separate battery backups, and clearly labelled cable routes per EN 54-2 installation requirements.

Can DSC alarm panels be remotely monitored via cloud alongside KNX?

Yes — DSC provides the HSM2HOST8 network module for PowerSeries Neo that enables cloud monitoring via DSC DLS5 software and Monitoring Station central station connectivity (using SIA DC-09 or Ademco Contact ID protocol). This cloud monitoring is parallel to the local KNX integration and does not interact with it. For ARC (Alarm Receiving Centre) connectivity: HSM2HOST8 connects via Ethernet to building LAN, sends alarm events to ARC via encrypted IP path. For local KNX integration: ENF16 relay outputs to KNX binary inputs (completely separate wiring). Both systems can operate simultaneously — ARC monitoring for graded EN 50131 compliance, KNX integration for building automation cause-and-effect.
