Easee (Stavanger, Norway — founded 2018) has rapidly become one of Europe's most popular EV charger brands. Their lightweight cable-mounted design, cloud connectivity, and open API have made Easee the preferred choice for smart home integrators. Easee supports both residential (Easee Home) and commercial/multi-charger (Easee Charge with load management) use cases, with Modbus TCP and OCPP 1.6 protocols for system integration.

How we use Easee
Easee chargers support dynamic load management — automatically adjusting charging current based on total building power consumption. In an apartment building with a shared main supply, this prevents overloading when multiple residents charge simultaneously. The Equalizer energy monitoring unit reads the main panel current and sends real-time load limits to connected Easee chargers. For KNX and building automation integration, Easee exposes charging state and power consumption via Modbus TCP and their cloud API.
In our panels, Easee integrates with KNX in two ways: (1) Modbus TCP — the KNX-Modbus gateway reads Easee charging state, active power (kW), and energy (kWh) from Easee Modbus registers. KNX logic uses this data for energy metering and circuit load management. (2) Home Assistant — HA Easee integration reads charging state, sets charging limits, and starts/stops charging sessions. HA KNX integration then publishes EV charging data to KNX group addresses for visualisation on KNX room controllers. For load management: Easee Equalizer handles the dynamic current allocation autonomously — KNX monitors the result.

How does Easee load management work in an apartment block?
The Easee Equalizer monitors the main supply current in real time (all 3 phases). When total draw approaches the main fuse limit, the Equalizer sends reduced charging current limits to all connected Easee Charge units simultaneously via the Easee circuit bus. Each charger reduces to the allocated limit. When other loads drop, the chargers ramp back up. This happens automatically — no KNX logic required. KNX/HA can monitor the current state.
Can I read Easee charging data into KNX?
Yes — via Easee Modbus TCP (requires Easee Pro firmware) or via Home Assistant. Modbus registers available: charging state (available/charging/disconnected), active power (kW), session energy (kWh), total energy (kWh), phase currents. A KNX-Modbus gateway or HA reads these and publishes them to KNX group addresses for display on room controllers and energy metering dashboards.
What OCPP version does Easee support?
Easee Charge supports OCPP 1.6 JSON over WebSocket. This connects to charge point management systems (CPMS) for billing, user authentication, and remote management. OCPP 2.0.1 support is on the roadmap. For simple building load management without billing, OCPP is not needed — Equalizer handles it locally.
Is Easee certified for installation in EU?
Yes — Easee chargers carry CE marking and comply with IEC 61851-1 (EV conductive charging), EN 61000-3-11 (flicker), and IEC 62955 (EVSE). Installation must comply with local electrical codes (IEC 60364-7-722 in most EU countries). Easee Home requires a dedicated circuit from the consumer unit.
