Power Quality and UPS with Modbus TCP KNX Integration for Data Centres
Eaton Corporation (Dublin, Ireland / Beachwood, Ohio) is a global power management company. The Eaton xFrame switchboard, Power Xpert 4000 UPS (10–300 kVA), and 9PX rackmount UPS are used in European data centres, hospitals, and industrial facilities where KNX building automation integration is required.

How we use Eaton
Eaton Power Xpert 4000 UPS KNX integration: Modbus TCP on port 502, unit ID 1. Key holding registers (FC3): 16 (output voltage L1-N, uint16, Vx10), 17 (output voltage L2-N), 18 (output voltage L3-N), 24 (output frequency Hzx10), 28 (UPS load percentage, uint16, %), 30 (battery SOC percentage), 31 (battery runtime remaining, minutes), 128 (UPS status word: bit 0 = on battery, bit 1 = low battery, bit 2 = replace battery). KNX Modbus gateway (MDT or Weinzierl) polls every 30s. Battery on-line state (reg 128 bit 0 = 1) triggers KNX telegram to system alarm GA (DPT 1.005). Battery SOC maps to DPT 5.001 for SCADA visualisation. Eaton 9PX Rack UPS (2200-3000 VA): UPS Network Card (NETWORK-M2) with Modbus TCP and SNMP. Same register approach. Eaton xFrame/PowerXpert Gateway: REST API and Modbus TCP for PDU (Power Distribution Unit) — per-outlet current monitoring, remote outlet switching. KNX integration: room-level power monitoring from PDU maps to KNX energy meter objects for BMS. Eaton EX 11 RT UPS: compact 3U rack, Modbus RTU on RS232 port — use Modbus RTU-to-TCP converter (USR-N510) for KNX gateway. EATON 9E UPS with RS232 Q1/Q2 dry contacts: traditional integration — UPS on battery triggers relay close, which drives KNX binary input.
Eaton UPS systems integrate with KNX via Modbus TCP (Power Xpert 4000, 9PX with NETWORK-M2 card) — battery SOC, load percentage, and on-battery alarm status feed KNX building management GAs.

Key components we install
9PX 3000VA 2700W Rack UPS
3000 VA/2700 W 2U rack UPS with optional NETWORK-M2 card (Modbus TCP, SNMP, REST). Port 502 unit 1. Register 30 for SOC, register 31 for runtime, register 128 for status. Used in server rooms requiring KNX integration for BMS alarm routing.
Power Xpert 4000 20 kVA
20 kVA/18 kW three-phase online double-conversion UPS. Modbus TCP port 502 — KNX reads per-phase voltage, load %, SOC, and runtime. Critical for hospitals and data centres where KNX BMS must monitor generator/UPS switchover.
NETWORK-M2 Network Card
Network management card for 9PX and 9SX UPS — adds Modbus TCP port 502, SNMP v3, REST API, and MQTT. Essential for KNX gateway integration of Eaton UPS systems.
Eaton FAQ
Which Eaton UPS models have Modbus TCP for KNX integration?
9PX series with NETWORK-M2 card, Power Xpert 4000/9395P with integrated Modbus, and 9E series (with external RTU-to-TCP converter). The NETWORK-M2 card enables Modbus TCP on port 502, unit 1 for SOC, load, and alarm registers.
