Ekinex

Ultra-flat Italian KNX design — when aesthetics are as important as function.

Ekinex (founded 2007, Varese, Italy) creates ultra-thin KNX push-button interfaces and room controllers with a distinctive Italian design aesthetic. Their products are popular across Southern Europe and increasingly in Northern European premium residential projects where clients want a non-German look — particularly the ultra-flat squared design of the EK-T4R and EK-E1R series.

Role in our panels

How we use Ekinex

What distinguishes Ekinex is the uncompromising flatness: their switches are among the thinnest KNX interfaces available (6–8mm protrusion from wall), and the large-format square glass plates give a minimalist hotel-suite feel. The range covers push-button interfaces (2/4/8 buttons), thermostat displays, and room controllers — all fully KNX-certified and ETS programmable.

In our panels, Ekinex devices are specified when the architect or interior designer has chosen their design series. Ekinex EK-T4R push-button interfaces connect to the KNX TP bus via the same mechanism as any KNX sensor — the panel houses the actuators, and the wall-mounted Ekinex switches send telegrams to group addresses. No special panel hardware is required.

Ekinex FAQ

Is Ekinex compatible with standard KNX systems?

Yes — Ekinex products are KNX-certified and appear in the KNX product database. They use standard ETS device files and communicate via standard KNX TP telegrams. Full compatibility with any KNX actuator or gateway.

How does Ekinex compare to Gira or Berker in terms of quality?

Ekinex competes at the same quality tier. The primary differentiator is design language — Ekinex has a distinctly Italian ultra-flat aesthetic vs Gira's more technical German look. Both are premium products with comparable build quality.

Are Ekinex switches available in different colours and finishes?

Yes — Ekinex offers their frames in white, black, aluminium, brushed steel, and several RAL colours. The glass covers are available in glossy and matte finishes. This makes them very flexible for custom interior design specifications.

Is Ekinex a good choice for hotel rooms?

Ekinex is an excellent choice for boutique hotel rooms where design differentiation matters. For large hotels (100+ rooms), the slightly higher cost per unit vs Gira or Jung may be a factor. The ultra-flat profile is particularly good for bedside panels where minimal protrusion is desired.
