EVBox

European EV Charging Infrastructure Leader

EVBox (Amsterdam) is one of Europe's largest EV charging infrastructure providers — Elvi residential wallbox and BusinessLine commercial charger are deployed across Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium, and Scandinavia. OCPP 2.0.1 support with local smart charging makes EVBox a reliable choice for building automation integration.

How we use EVBox

Elvi residential charger: 7.4 kW single-phase or 22 kW three-phase. Firmware v3.6+ exposes Modbus TCP on port 502, unit ID 1. Key registers: 100 (charge state: 0=available, 1=preparing, 3=charging, 5=finishing), 102 (active charge power, W, uint16), 104 (session energy Wh, uint32). BusinessLine commercial charger: 22 kW, two OCPP 1.6J compliant connectors, RFID reader, LED status indicator. EVBox Everon: cloud-based OCPP backend for fleet management. Local OCPP: EVBox chargers can connect to a local OCPP server (for KNX integration via IP-Symcon or Home Assistant). KNX integration: MDT Modbus Gateway polls Elvi reg 102 every 10s — charge power appears as KNX DPT 9.001 group object. Binary input from KNX (charge enable/disable) writes to Modbus reg 110 (charger enable: 0=disable, 1=enable). Dynamic load management: KNX calculates available grid capacity (total grid power from Eastron SDM630 Modbus) minus base load, sends available current to EVBox via Modbus reg 111 (max current, A).

EVBox Elvi communicates via Modbus TCP (firmware v3.6+) — KNX Modbus gateway reads charge power and charge state, and writes enable/disable and maximum current setpoint for dynamic load management.

EVBox FAQ

What are the Modbus TCP registers for Elvi?

Elvi fw3.6+: reg 100 (charge state), 102 (power W), 104 (session Wh), 110 (enable: 0=disable/1=enable), 111 (max current A).

What is the minimum firmware version for Modbus TCP?

Version 3.6. Earlier firmware supports OCPP local mode only — check EVBox portal for available firmware updates.

Can KNX implement dynamic load management with EVBox?

Yes — KNX reads grid meter Modbus (e.g. Eastron SDM630), calculates available headroom, and writes EVBox reg 111 to limit charge current within available grid capacity.
