Ferroli
Bluehelix Condensing Boilers and Heat Pumps for KNX Heating Control
Ferroli (San Bonifacio, Italy) is a major European heating manufacturer — Bluehelix condensing boiler series is widely installed in residential and light commercial buildings across Southern and Eastern Europe. Modbus RTU via the Mod-RF communication module enables KNX integration for flow temperature control, fault monitoring, and DHW scheduling.
Role in our panels
How we use Ferroli
Bluehelix Tech (25 kW) and Bluehelix HR (35 kW): wall-hung condensing gas boilers. Mod-RF module (DIN rail accessory) adds RS485 Modbus RTU: 19200 baud, 8N1, unit ID 1. Key registers (holding, FC3/FC6): 0 (boiler operating status: 0=standby, 1=CH heating, 2=DHW, 3=frost protection, 4=fault), 1 (flow temperature, int16, 0.1°C), 2 (return temperature, int16, 0.1°C), 3 (DHW temperature, int16, 0.1°C), 4 (outdoor temperature if sensor fitted, int16, 0.1°C), 10 (CH flow setpoint, write, int16, 0.1°C, range 20-80°C), 11 (DHW setpoint, write, int16, 0.1°C), 15 (boiler enable/disable, write, 0=off, 1=on), 20 (burner modulation, uint16, %). KNX integration: MDT Modbus Gateway polls all read registers every 30s — flow and return temperatures as DPT 9.001, operating status as DPT 5.010, fault as DPT 1.005 alarm. KNX weather compensation: outdoor temperature sensor (Elsner KNX Tassino T UP) provides outdoor temp as KNX 9.001 → KNX logic block (MDT SCN-LCRM.01) calculates heating curve setpoint → writes to Ferroli Modbus reg 10. Ferroli Omnia heat pump: same Mod-RF module and register map. SG Ready: Omnia has dry-contact terminals (SG1, SG2) for grid tariff integration.
Ferroli Bluehelix connects via Modbus RTU (Mod-RF module) to KNX gateway — KNX controls flow temperature setpoint, monitors boiler status and fault, and implements weather compensation curves.

Ferroli FAQ
Is the Mod-RF module required for Modbus on Bluehelix?
Yes — Mod-RF is a mandatory accessory for RS485 Modbus on Bluehelix boilers. It must be ordered separately and activated by a certified Ferroli partner during commissioning.
What is the flow setpoint write range?
20-80°C on the CH circuit (Modbus reg 10); DHW setpoint range is 40-60°C (reg 11). Values are written as int16 in 0.1°C units.
What is the difference between Bluehelix Tech and HR?
HR (High Range) has a larger heat exchanger for a wider modulation range (10-35 kW), more suitable for larger homes and light commercial use. Tech (25 kW max) is optimised for apartments and smaller villas.
