Security Center VMS and Synergis Access Control — SDK and KNX Event Integration

Genetec (Montreal, Canada, founded 1997) develops Security Center — the leading unified physical security platform for large enterprises, airports, and government buildings, combining Omnicast VMS (video), Synergis access control (OSDP, Wiegand, PoE), and AutoVu ANPR in one platform. KNX integration via Genetec SDK events (access granted/camera alarm → middleware → KNXnet/IP write) or Synergis controller relay output to KNX binary input.

How we use Genetec

Security Center architecture: Security Center 5.x (Windows server, SQL Server, redundant servers, 200,000+ cameras, 50,000+ access points). Omnicast VMS: H.264/H.265 recording, video analytics, federated architecture. Synergis IX/Cloud Link: PoE IP access controller (1–2 doors per unit), OSDP/Wiegand reader support, redundant Ethernet, anti-passback, multi-factor auth. AutoVu: ANPR with plate recognition 150 km/h, 360° SharpX camera. Mission Control: situational awareness layer — correlates events from all subsystems into incidents, assigns response procedures. KNX integration via SDK: Genetec Security Center SDK (C# .NET, available to certified Genetec Integration Partners) subscribes to Security Center events: AccessPointStateChanged (door granted/denied/forced), CameraAlarm, ZoneStateChanged. On event: SDK sends HTTP POST to KNXnet/IP REST gateway or calls knxd API → writes to KNX GA. Example: camera alarm in parking → KNX GA 13/10/0 = 1 → KNX outdoor lighting flood (high-security flood scene). Access granted at server room → KNX GA 13/5/0 = 1 → HVAC setpoint reduces (fewer people entering). SDK requires Genetec integration partner agreement. Synergis relay output to KNX binary input: Synergis IX controller (PoE, 1 door) has 2 auxiliary relay outputs (Form C, 1A). Configure in Security Manager: Output Behavior = Access Granted, Duration 5 seconds. Wire NO/COM → KNX binary input module. This approach does not require SDK — accessible to any KNX installer. Covers: access granted, door forced, lockdown output (Security Center lockdown → Synergis relay latch → KNX emergency mode). AutoVu ANPR to KNX: AutoVu recognises number plate → Security Center event "Vehicle Arrived" with plate + timestamp → SDK middleware → KNX GA 13/20/0 = 1 (car park arrival) → KNX lighting zone activates for parking area. VIP plate recognition: if plate matches VIP list → KNX scene "VIP Welcome" (lobby lighting preset, reception alert). ANPR + KNX provides frictionless parking automation without additional access cards.

Integration via Genetec SDK event middleware or Synergis controller relay output to KNX binary input — access, camera alarm, and ANPR events trigger KNX building automation. SDK approach enables bidirectional integration with Security Center events.

Genetec products

Key components we install

SC-5Unified Physical Security Platform (VMS + ACS)

Security Center 5.12

Windows server platform unifying Omnicast VMS, Synergis access control, and AutoVu ANPR. Supports 200,000+ cameras and 50,000+ access points with federated multi-site architecture. Security Center SDK (C# .NET) enables certified integration partners to subscribe to events for KNX middleware development. SQL Server backend, redundant server support.

SYN-IXIP Access Controller (1 Door, OSDP, Relay Outputs)

Synergis IX PoE Controller

PoE IP access controller for 1 door (expandable to 2). OSDP v2 and Wiegand reader support. 2 auxiliary relay outputs (Form C, 1A) configurable for access granted/forced/lockdown in Security Manager. Relay output wires directly to KNX binary input module — no SDK required for this integration path. Redundant Ethernet for high-availability deployments.

OMN-VMSVideo Management System (H.265, Analytics, Federation)

Omnicast VMS

Genetec Omnicast VMS module for H.264/H.265 IP camera recording, video analytics (intrusion, loitering, crowd detection), and federated multi-site viewing. Camera alarm events subscribed via Security Center SDK → KNX write for emergency lighting or lockdown trigger. Supports 200,000+ cameras across federated sites.

AV-SX360360° ANPR Camera (150km/h, Number Plate Recognition)

AutoVu SharpX ANPR Camera

360° ANPR camera for car park entry/exit lanes and road monitoring. Plate recognition at up to 150 km/h. Integrates with Security Center AutoVu module — Vehicle Arrived events with plate + timestamp trigger KNX middleware for car park lighting automation and VIP welcome scenes. Suited for corporate car parks, hospitals, and airports.

MC-SITSituational Awareness Layer (Event Correlation, Response Procedures)

Mission Control

Genetec Mission Control correlates events from all Security Center subsystems (VMS, ACS, ANPR) into unified incidents with assigned response procedures. Triggers from Mission Control incidents can be connected to SDK middleware for KNX emergency mode activation during correlated security events (e.g., forced door + camera alarm → KNX lockdown scene).

Genetec FAQ

Does Genetec Security Center have a native KNX module?

No — Genetec does not publish a native KNX module in the Security Center App Store. Integration requires custom SDK development (Genetec Integration Partner) or hardware relay output from Synergis controller to KNX binary input.

Can Genetec events bidirectionally control KNX and receive KNX events?

SDK integration can be bidirectional: Genetec events → KNX writes (via knxd/KNXnet/IP) AND KNX events → Genetec via SDK event injection (AccessPointEvent). This requires custom integration development. Hardware relay output is one-directional only (Genetec → KNX).

Genetec vs Milestone for KNX integration?

Milestone XProtect has a native KNX Plugin (by Isys, available in Milestone Marketplace) — simpler integration without SDK development. Genetec requires custom SDK work. For KNX-heavy projects: Milestone XProtect + KNX plugin is lower integration cost. Genetec Security Center is superior for very large, multi-site, or government projects requiring Genetec's broader platform capabilities.
