Gira

Premium German KNX switches and home automation — since 1905.

Gira is one of the most recognised names in KNX automation. Based in Radevormwald, Germany, Gira manufactures the iconic System 55 switch range alongside KNX IP routers, touch panels and the HomeServer 4 visualisation platform used across Europe's premium residential and commercial projects.

Role in our panels

How we use Gira

When a client requires a panel with a consistent, high-end switch aesthetic throughout the building, Gira System 55 or E2 frames are usually the answer. The range spans standard rockers, touch dimmers, occupancy sensors and IR receivers — all in a uniform design language. Gira's KNX IP Router provides the TP/IP backbone for multi-area KNX installations, and we use Gira's 640 mA power supplies as the primary KNX bus power source in medium and large panels.

Gira's KNX IP Router 3 (2242 00) is our default KNX/IP interface for remote programming, diagnostics and cloud connectivity. Alongside it, Gira binary inputs (2016 00) and universal push-button interfaces (2023 00) provide the panel-side connection points for hard-wired sensors and conventional switches. In premium residential projects we integrate Gira HomeServer 4 for local visualisation, presence simulation and multi-user access control.

Gira FAQ

What makes Gira different from other KNX manufacturers?

Gira occupies the premium tier of the KNX market. Their switch design language (System 55, E2, TX_44) is arguably the most consistent and widely specified in European architecture. Gira products tend to cost 20–40% more than comparable MDT or Hager devices but offer superior aesthetics and very long production lifecycles — the System 55 design has been in production for over 30 years.

Can I use Gira System 55 switches with any KNX panel?

Yes. Gira System 55 switches communicate over the standard KNX TP bus. Any KNX-certified actuator (Hager, MDT, ABB) will receive the telegrams. The switches are independent of the DIN-rail components in the panel — you choose aesthetics (Gira) and functionality (any brand) independently.

Do you pre-program Gira HomeServer 4 before delivery?

Yes. We configure HomeServer 4 with all KNX group addresses from the ETS project, build the visualisation pages (rooms, functions, energy), and test remote access. The delivered panel is ready to connect to the building network — no additional programming is required on-site.

What is the lead time for Gira components?

Standard Gira DIN-rail and panel components are typically in stock at our supplier. Design switch ranges (special finishes, custom frames) may have 2–4 week lead time from Gira Germany. We account for this in our project timeline from the moment we receive your confirmed order.
