Honeywell Building Technologies (a division of Honeywell International, formerly Honeywell Building Controls) manufactures room thermostats, DDC controllers, the Niagara Framework BMS platform, fire alarm panels through its NOTIFIER subsidiary, and commercial HVAC controls including valve actuators and AHU DDC. In European KNX projects, Honeywell equipment appears at two distinct levels: at the room level (T6H Pro BACnet room thermostat on fan coil units, alongside KNX room controllers for lighting) and at the building management level (Niagara N4 JACE 8000 aggregating HVAC, BACnet, Modbus data — KNX integrators interface with Niagara rather than replacing it). Honeywell is the dominant BMS platform vendor in European commercial buildings — virtually every large office block runs a Niagara JACE.

How we use Honeywell

The Niagara Framework (Tridium, a Honeywell company) is the market-leading BMS software platform: JACE 8000 field controllers aggregate HVAC, fire, access control and energy data from BACnet, Modbus, LON and KNX sources into a unified Niagara Workbench dashboard. KNX integrators working in commercial projects will almost always encounter an existing Niagara JACE — the correct approach is to interface KNX with Niagara via a KNXnet/IP driver rather than install a parallel visualisation. At room level, T6H Pro BACnet MS/TP thermostats control fan coil units independently of the KNX room controller — the KNX room controller handles lighting and blind control while the T6H handles HVAC. The NOTIFIER ID3000 addressable fire panel (EN 54-2 certified, Honeywell subsidiary) is the most common fire alarm platform in European commercial buildings — its volt-free relay outputs interface with KNX binary input modules for fire cause-and-effect actions.

For KNX AHU control: KNX analog output module (0-10V) drives VK2 actuator position. 24V AC supply from panel transformer (unswitched — actuator must always be powered to hold spring-return position). How does Niagara Framework connect to KNX?

The Niagara N4 JACE 8000 supports the KNX driver developed by the KNX Association (available from Tridium marketplace). Once installed, the JACE connects to the KNX installation via KNXnet/IP — either directly to a KNX IP router or to an IP-enabled line coupler. Niagara Workbench then lists all KNX group addresses as configurable points: the integrator maps each KNX group address to a Niagara point with the correct DPT. Commercial projects: Niagara manages HVAC (AHU setpoints, FCU fan speed, VRF mode) while KNX manages room lighting and blinds — both appear unified in the Niagara graphics. KNX setpoint changes from a KNX room panel are reflected in Niagara in real time.

Can Honeywell T6H thermostats output 0-10V for KNX analog input?

The T6H Pro can output a 0-10V signal (or 2-10V) for proportional fan coil valve or damper control — this is readable by a KNX analog input module. However, this is unidirectional: the T6H outputs based on its own room sensor and setpoint, with no way to override the setpoint from KNX via the 0-10V wire. For bidirectional control (KNX writing a setpoint to the T6H), BACnet MS/TP is the correct path: Niagara JACE reads the KNX group address for setpoint (written by KNX room panel or schedule) and writes it to the T6H over BACnet. This requires the Niagara KNX driver and a JACE on the network.

What Honeywell products are relevant for fire and KNX integration?

The NOTIFIER ID3000 addressable fire panel provides EN 54-2 certified volt-free relay outputs for alarm, zone and fault signals. These relay outputs wire to KNX binary input modules (MDT STC-0416.02 recommended — opto-isolated inputs for safety system interfacing). KNX cause-and-effect programming in ETS6: alarm input group object triggers KNX actions — staircase lights maximum brightness (KNX dimmer), blinds to up position (KNX blind actuator), lift call to ground floor (KNX relay to lift controller), HVAC smoke dampers closed (KNX analog output 0V to Belimo damper actuators). All KNX cause-and-effect logic must be reviewed by a fire engineer and tested to EN 54-14 as part of the overall fire system commissioning.
