Legrand

French electrical infrastructure giant — KNX switches, DIN-rail breakers and BTicino MyHOME bus system.

Legrand (Limoges, France — founded 1865) is one of Europe's largest electrical infrastructure companies, operating in 90 countries with brands including BTicino (Italy), Bticino MyHOME, Valena Life, Mosaic, Céliane and Arteor. In KNX projects, Legrand is encountered in two distinct roles: (1) as a manufacturer of KNX-certified switches and actuators under the Valena Life KNX range, competing with Gira and Jung in mid-range residential; and (2) as a provider of electrical panel components (circuit breakers, RCDs, DX3/TX3 series) in countries where Legrand dominates the electrical distribution market (France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Eastern Europe). Their BTicino MyHOME Bus is a proprietary Italian smart home protocol — separate from KNX — that can be interfaced to KNX via a MyHOME/KNX gateway.

Role in our panels

How we use Legrand

Legrand KNX product range is produced primarily through their BTicino brand for the Italian market and Valena Life for France and wider Europe. The Valena Life KNX switch range is fully ETS6-compatible, IEC 14543-3 certified, and interoperable with all KNX manufacturers. Legrand circuit breakers (DX3, TX3 series) are specified by PanelCraft engineers in projects across France, Italy, Portugal and Eastern Europe where Legrand distribution products are the local standard. The DX3 series is MID-compliant with metering versions available — relevant for Modbus sub-metering projects. BTicino MyHOME (the Italian home automation brand) is a proprietary bus system separate from KNX, primarily found in Italian residential renovation projects — a MyHOME/KNX gateway is required for integration.

In PanelCraft panels for French and Italian market projects, Legrand/BTicino DIN-rail products (MCBs, RCDs, surge protection) are commonly used as alternatives to Schneider Electric, with equivalent functionality and CE certification. For KNX projects in France, Legrand Valena Life KNX switches provide a cost-effective alternative to Gira/Jung at a price point more aligned with French project budgets. The Valena Life frame system accepts KNX modules alongside standard installation (video intercom, USB charger, data outlets) in the same frame — important for French standardisation of switch plates. Legrand DX3 Metering circuit breakers (with Modbus RTU output) are specified when the client requires individual circuit energy monitoring without separate energy meters.

Used in these project types

French residential — Valena Life KNX switches throughout, Legrand DX3 breakers in panel
Italian renovation — BTicino MyHOME existing system + KNX expansion via gateway
Southern European commercial — Legrand DX3 metering breakers for circuit-level energy monitoring
Portuguese and Spanish projects — Legrand distribution board products as local standard
French hôtellerie — Legrand/BTicino switches in guest rooms, central KNX panel for hotel management

Legrand products

Key components we install

741720KNX Room Pushbutton

Legrand Valena Life KNX Pushbutton 2-gang

KNX TP 2-gang pushbutton sensor with integrated temperature sensor option. ETS6 application. Valena Life frame system — available in White, Aluminium, Beige, and Titanium. KNX certified. French and Italian market standard at a more accessible price than Gira System 55. Compatible with any KNX installation.

067695Circuit Breaker (DIN-rail)

Legrand DX3 6000A MCB C16

DX3 series miniature circuit breaker, 16A, 6kA, Curve C. The standard Legrand MCB used in French and Southern European distribution boards. 17.5mm/pole. IEC 60898. Used in PanelCraft panels for French market projects where Legrand is the specified brand.

411630RCD (Residual Current Device)

Legrand TX3 RCD Type A 40A/30mA

TX3 series Type A 30mA RCD for residential protection. 40A rated current. 2-pole. IEC 61008. Standard specification for French residential panels. Type A detects sinusoidal and pulsating DC leakage — required for modern electronic load circuits (variable speed drives, EV chargers).

BTI-F454MyHOME Bus Controller

BTicino MyHOME F454 Central Unit

BTicino MyHOME Bus central unit for Italian smart home projects. Controls lighting, automation, energy and thermoregulation via the proprietary BTicino Bus (SCS). Integration with KNX via BTicino MyHOME/KNX gateway (F456). Used in Italian residential renovation where MyHOME was the original system and KNX expansion is added.

410160Surge Protective Device

Legrand Surge Protection DX3 SPD Type 2

Type 2 SPD for secondary protection (DIN-rail, main distribution board). 40kA (8/20μs), 1.5kV Up. 2-pole. With remote status signalling contact. Used in KNX panels as secondary surge protection downstream of the service entry SPD. Legrand version of Schneider IPRD equivalent.

Legrand FAQ

Is BTicino MyHOME compatible with KNX?

BTicino MyHOME Bus uses a proprietary SCS (Sistema di Comunicazione SCS) protocol — it is not KNX compatible. The BTicino F456 MyHOME/KNX gateway bridges the two systems via pre-defined group address mappings. Integration is limited to basic commands (on/off, dim, scene) — advanced KNX features like parametric scene storage in actuators are not accessible from MyHOME. For new installations in Italy, KNX or Valena Life KNX is recommended over MyHOME for full interoperability.

Are Legrand DX3 circuit breakers equivalent to Schneider iC60?

Legrand DX3 (6kA, Curve B/C/D) and Schneider iC60N are comparable in specification — both IEC 60898 compliant at equivalent ratings. Legrand DX3 has a 17.5mm/pole width (wider than Schneider's 9mm/pole iC60 in some ranges). In French projects, Legrand and Schneider are both widely used — choice often depends on the panel manufacturer's preference and distributor relationships. PanelCraft uses both based on project specification and customer preference.

Does Legrand make KNX IP routers or actuators?

Legrand makes KNX pushbuttons (Valena Life KNX) and some KNX actuators through BTicino, but does not have a comprehensive KNX DIN-rail actuator range comparable to MDT, Hager or ABB. In KNX panels for French/Italian projects, Legrand switches are combined with MDT or Hager DIN-rail actuators and Weinzierl or MDT IP routers. The Legrand/BTicino KNX presence is primarily at the room-level (switches, sensors) rather than panel-level (actuators, IP infrastructure).
