LOYTEC Electronics (Vienna, Austria, founded 2000) is an Austrian building automation company specialising in multi-protocol room automation controllers, DALI lighting controllers, and protocol gateway devices. How we use LOYTEC Electronics

L-DALI-3 DALI/KNX controller: the L-DALI-3 is LOYTEC's flagship DALI lighting controller, combining 4 DALI lines (4 × 64 devices = 256 DALI devices total), KNX TP, Ethernet (BACnet/IP and REST API), and Modbus in one DIN-rail unit. Unlike the Helvar Router 950 (2 DALI lines, KNX TP, Ethernet), the L-DALI-3 handles four times the luminaire count from a single device — making it the preferred choice for large floor plates (1,500-3,000m² per device). Configuration: LOYTEC LINX Configurator software (Windows, Mac) for DALI commissioning, KNX group address mapping, BACnet object assignment, and room logic programming. DALI emergency test scheduling: EN 50172 monthly and annual tests programmed directly in LINX Configurator — test results stored in L-DALI-3 and published as BACnet objects for BMS trending. LGATE-900 room automation server: the LGATE-900 manages up to 10 rooms (or up to 64 DALI devices, 64 KNX group address inputs/outputs, and 32 BACnet data points) from a single DIN-rail device. Key advantage over MDT SCN-RT55 room controllers: centralised control from one device for an entire floor, rather than individual room controllers per room. The LGATE-900 contains a graphical programming environment (LOYTEC L-Studio) with function blocks for: HVAC room control (FCU, VAV, underfloor heating PI), lighting automation (daylight harvesting, occupancy-based dimming), blind/shade positioning (sun tracking, wind protection), and energy monitoring. Each room's function blocks run independently within the LGATE-900 — total cost is often lower than 10 individual room controllers for medium-size hotels and office floors. Protocol gateway capabilities: the LKNX-100 KNX-to-BACnet gateway converts KNX group addresses to BACnet objects bidirectionally — identical function to the Intesis IN701KNX but manufactured by LOYTEC. The LGATE-900 and L-DALI-3 also have built-in BACnet/IP server capability — no separate gateway needed if LOYTEC devices are already installed. For Siemens Desigo CC or Schneider EcoStruxure BMS integration: LOYTEC devices appear directly as BACnet/IP servers, exposing DALI device levels, KNX sensor values, and room function states as BACnet objects. BMS adds LOYTEC devices by IP address, browses BACnet object list, and assigns to BMS alarms, trends, and graphics — same workflow as adding any BACnet controller. LSTAT touchscreen room unit: the LSTAT room unit (5" or 7" capacitive touchscreen) is LOYTEC's room controller for hotel and office applications — DND/MUR buttons, temperature setpoint, lighting scene, blind position, occupancy indicator. The LSTAT communicates with the LGATE-900 via Ethernet (same LAN, proprietary LOYTEC L-bus protocol). Unlike KNX room controllers (MDT, Gira, Zennio) that use KNX TP to communicate, the LSTAT uses TCP/IP — eliminating the 64-device KNX line limit for panel rooms with many LSTAT units. One LGATE-900 supports up to 10 LSTAT units (one per room), with BACnet/IP and KNX group address outputs for integration with the building KNX layer.

LOYTEC devices (L-DALI-3, LGATE-900) have native KNX TP interfaces alongside DALI and BACnet — no separate KNX-DALI gateway needed. KNX group addresses map directly to DALI scenes, room function triggers, and BACnet data points within the LOYTEC device. LKNX-100 provides standalone KNX-to-BACnet translation for non-LOYTEC KNX installations needing BMS connectivity.

Centralised room automation server managing up to 10 rooms from one DIN-rail device: 64 DALI devices, 64 KNX group address inputs, 64 KNX group address outputs, 32 BACnet data point objects. Graphical programming in LOYTEC L-Studio: HVAC function blocks (FCU PI control, VAV positioning, underfloor heating), lighting automation (daylight harvesting, presence-linked dimming), blind/shade control (sun tracking, wind alarm), energy monitoring (kWh metering via M-Bus or BACnet). Standalone KNX-to-BACnet/IP gateway: converts KNX group addresses to BACnet objects bidirectionally. In ETS6: configure LKNX-100 as KNX device, assign group addresses to communication objects. In LINX Configurator: map each KNX communication object to a BACnet object type (AV, BV, MSV) and instance number. BMS (Siemens Desigo CC, Schneider EcoStruxure, Honeywell SCADA) adds LKNX-100 as a BACnet/IP device by IP address — reads KNX sensor values (temperature, CO2, occupancy) and writes KNX actuator commands (setpoints, relay states) as BACnet object writes. Used in non-LOYTEC KNX installations requiring BMS connectivity — equivalent to Intesis IN701KNX with LOYTEC configuration toolchain. DIN-rail mount, 24V DC powered.

How does LOYTEC L-DALI-3 compare to Helvar Router 950 for KNX integration?

Both are DALI controllers with native KNX TP interfaces, eliminating the need for a separate DALI-KNX gateway. Key differences: capacity — L-DALI-3 supports 4 DALI lines (256 devices) vs Router 950's 2 lines (128 devices). Protocol breadth — L-DALI-3 also has BACnet/IP and Modbus built in; Router 950 has Ethernet only. Programming software — L-DALI-3 uses LOYTEC LINX Configurator; Router 950 uses Helvar Imagine. For mid-size commercial projects (< 128 DALI devices, KNX integration only): Router 950 is simpler and more widely known among KNX integrators (Imagine software is standard in the DALI commissioning community). For large projects (> 128 DALI devices, BACnet BMS integration required): L-DALI-3 offers significant advantage in reducing device count and protocol complexity.

Does LOYTEC provide ETS6 application programs for KNX programming?

Yes — LOYTEC devices with KNX TP interface have ETS6 product database entries, downloadable from loytec.com and the KNX online catalog. In ETS6, LOYTEC devices appear as standard KNX devices: assign individual address, download parameters. The KNX group address mapping (which ETS6 communication objects correspond to which DALI devices/groups/scenes) is configured partly in ETS6 parameters and partly in LINX Configurator. The two tools complement each other: ETS6 handles KNX device programming and group address assignment; LINX Configurator handles DALI commissioning, BACnet object assignment, and room logic programming. For integrators already familiar with Helvar Imagine: LINX Configurator has a steeper learning curve but more configuration depth.

What is the maximum installation size supported by LOYTEC LGATE-900?

A single LGATE-900 handles up to 10 rooms with: 64 DALI devices (across all 10 rooms combined), 64 KNX group address inputs, 64 KNX group address outputs, and 32 BACnet data point objects. For a medium hotel floor with 30 rooms: install 3 × LGATE-900 units (one per 10 rooms), each connected to the Ethernet LAN (BACnet/IP network) and to separate KNX TP line segments (each LGATE-900 acts as a KNX line device). The 3 LGATE-900 units appear in LOYTEC L-Studio as one combined project — room logic can reference data points across units. For very large hotels (200+ rooms): LOYTEC provides the L-INX building automation server (supervisor layer) that coordinates multiple LGATE-900 units into a hierarchical building automation system with centralised alarming, trending, and energy reporting.
