Lunatone Industrial Electronics (Freistadt, Austria — founded 1999) is a specialist DALI manufacturer known for the LCOS (Lunatone Compact Operating System) family of DALI-2 controllers and the DALI Display product line for touchscreen luminaire control. Active in the EU professional lighting market for 25 years, Lunatone products are specified by lighting designers who need small form-factor DALI-2 controllers and flexible KNX-DALI bridging without the overhead of a full BMS.

How we use Lunatone
Lunatone's product range covers: DALI-2 multi-master controllers (LCOS 4 and LCOS 8), DALI-2 push-button interfaces, DALI-2 occupancy sensors, 4-channel 0-10V/DALI-2 dimmer modules, KNX-DALI gateways, and the DALI Display touchscreen panel. Unlike Helvar or Tridonic, Lunatone targets smaller commercial and high-end residential projects where a full HelvarNet installation is over-specified but a direct DALI-2 multi-master controller with KNX integration is needed.
In our panels, Lunatone integrates at two levels: (1) LCOS DALI-2 controller with KNX interface — the LCOS sends/receives KNX group address telegrams for scene recall, on/off, and dimming; it handles DALI-2 group logic internally. (2) Lunatone KNX-DALI gateway — translates KNX group address commands (DPT 1.001 on/off, DPT 3.007 dimming, DPT 18.001 scene) into DALI-2 broadcast/group/individual commands. Used when a separate DALI-2 controller is not required — KNX handles the logic, Lunatone translates to DALI-2.

LCOS 4 DALI-2
Compact 4-channel DALI-2 multi-master controller. Each channel: 64 DALI-2 devices, 16 groups, 16 scenes. DIN-rail, 4 modules wide. KNX interface option. Schedule, sensor input, occupancy logic. Ideal for single-room to medium commercial zone control.
LCOS 8 DALI-2
8-channel DALI-2 controller. Up to 512 DALI-2 devices (8 × 64). Ethernet connectivity, DALI-2 diagnostics, HeliosMS software integration. For larger commercial installations without requiring a full HelvarNet or similar system.
DALI-2 Push Button Interface
8-input push button interface for DALI-2 systems. Connects standard pushbuttons (momentary contact) to DALI-2 commands: on/off, dim, scene recall. Eliminates need for separate binary input module.
DALI-2 Sensor
Combined DALI-2 presence and daylight sensor. Ceiling-mount, 360° PIR, adjustable hold time. Reports occupancy and lux level as DALI-2 sensor data to LCOS controller. Used for presence-adaptive and daylight harvesting automation.
KNX-DALI Gateway
Translates KNX TP group address telegrams into DALI-2 commands. 1 DALI-2 output × 64 devices. DIN-rail. KNX logical objects: group on/off, dimming, scene, arc level. Simple bridge for KNX-primary projects needing DALI-2 output.
DALI Display
4.3" colour touchscreen for DALI-2 scene control. Displays groups, scenes, and live dimming level. Wall-mount. Used in meeting rooms and hotel rooms where visual scene selection is preferred over physical buttons.
Lunatone FAQ
How does Lunatone LCOS compare to Helvar Router 950?
Both are DALI-2 multi-master controllers, but they target different scales. Helvar Router 950 (up to 4 outputs × 64 ECGs = 256 devices per Router) comes with HelvarNet software for large commercial systems. Lunatone LCOS 4/8 is more compact and affordable, without a separate software platform — commissioning is done directly via ETS or Lunatone DALI Display. For projects up to 200 DALI-2 devices without a full facility management requirement, Lunatone is often the better fit.
Can Lunatone work with any DALI-2 device?
Yes — Lunatone products carry DALI-2 certification from DiiA, ensuring interoperability with any other DALI-2 certified device (Tridonic, Osram, Philips, Helvar, etc.). DALI-2 certification guarantees that multi-master operation, Part 2 emergency testing, and DT8 colour control commands work across brands.
Is Lunatone LCOS programmable without ETS?
Yes — Lunatone provides a standalone PC application (LCOS Explorer) and web interface for commissioning DALI-2 groups, scenes, and sensor parameters. ETS integration is available for the KNX interface option. For smaller installations without a KNX engineer, the LCOS Explorer tool is sufficient.
Does Lunatone support tunable white (DALI-2 DT8)?
Yes — LCOS controllers and the KNX-DALI gateway support DALI-2 Device Type 8 (colour temperature and XY colour) commands. Tunable white scenes are configured with both arc power level and colour temperature stored per scene per ECG. The KNX object for colour temperature (DPT 5.001 scaled to Kelvin range) maps to DALI-2 DT8 colour temperature commands.
