Belgium's Premium KNX Switch Range — Niko One, NHC+ and Professional Automation

Niko is Belgium's largest electrical installation brand, founded in 1919 in Sint-Niklaas. The Niko One KNX switch range pairs premium tactile frames (glass, stainless, Perspex) with full KNX TP bus coupler modules — programmable in ETS6 with action tables, scene recall (DPT 18.001), LED feedback, and long-press dimming. Niko is the dominant KNX switch brand in Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands, and is increasingly specified by European architects for its minimalist aesthetics combined with professional KNX capability.

How we use Niko

Niko One architecture: each Niko One switch frame accepts one or more KNX modules (2-button or 4-button, RJ45 bus connection to YCYM KNX cable). Module connects to KNX TP bus at 29V DC SELV. ETS6 parameters include: per-button action table (short press, long press, double press, cyclic repeat), toggle mode, dim start/stop (DPT 3.007 4-bit), scene recall (DPT 18.001, scenes 0–63), LED brightness (0–100%), LED mode (status, alarm flash, night dim). Frames available in: glass (white, graphite, mirror), painted stainless (pure white, black), Perspex (transparent). Single/double/triple gang configurations. IP20 rated (IP44 for bathroom variant). Niko Home Control+ (NHC+): Niko's proprietary residential bus system — same YCYM cable as KNX, 29V DC bus, but using proprietary NHC+ application layer (NOT KNX-compatible at application level). NHC+ Connected Controller (CC) is the system brain: Ethernet RJ45, runs NHC+ configuration API, iOS/Android app for homeowner. The CC includes a built-in KNX TP interface (KNXnet/IP tunnelling) — bridges NHC+ devices to KNX actuators. Example: homeowner controls KNX dimmer actuator from NHC+ app; simultaneously, Niko One KNX push-button controls the same actuator. Max 256 KNX GAs via NHC+ bridge. Suitable for premium residential projects where homeowner wants app simplicity but installer needs ETS6 professional control. Niko access control: Niko also manufactures a KNX access module (video door station, digital nameplate, coded lock reader) for multi-apartment buildings — integrates with KNX installation for lighting/intercom automation. The Niko Two (7-inch touchpanel) provides KNX visualisation for residents — replaces traditional wall switches with a touchscreen showing lighting, blinds, heating, and video intercom. Market position and specification: Niko One KNX is the reference switch in Belgian KNX installations — most Belgian KNX installers default to Niko, with Jung/Gira as alternatives for German-market projects. Niko partners with MDT, ABB, and Hager for KNX actuators. Standard specification pattern: Niko One frames/modules for all switch points, MDT AKD-0424V actuators, MDT SCN-DALI.01 DALI gateway. Niko products are ETS6-certified and listed in KNX Association product database.

Native KNX TP switch modules with full ETS6 application — action tables, scene recall, LED feedback, long-press dimming. NHC+ bridge provides residential app control alongside professional KNX infrastructure.

Niko FAQ

Are Niko One KNX modules compatible with other frame brands?

Niko One modules fit only Niko frames — the 45×45mm format is proprietary to Niko. For frame flexibility, Jung LS990 or Gira E2 accept any KNX module with adapters, but Niko One modules do not interchange with other frames.

Can Niko Home Control+ and KNX devices coexist on the same cable?

No — NHC+ devices and KNX devices cannot share the same bus segment. They use the same physical YCYM cable and 29V DC bus voltage, but different application layers. Run separate bus segments: NHC+ devices on NHC+ segments, KNX devices on KNX segments. The NHC+ Connected Controller bridges the two logically.

What is the difference between Niko One and Niko Two?

Niko One is a push-button switch module (physical buttons, LED indicators, KNX TP). Niko Two is a 7-inch capacitive touchpanel with a visual interface for controlling lighting, blinds, heating, and intercom — no physical buttons. Niko Two runs a dedicated NHC+ or KNX visualisation app.
