Panasonic Corporation (Osaka, Japan, founded 1918) is one of the world's largest manufacturers of VRF air conditioning and heat pump systems, with the PAC-i H-series widely installed in European commercial buildings. The CZ-CAPRA1 native KNX TP adapter integrates each Panasonic indoor unit directly into the KNX installation — no Modbus gateway required, full ETS6 programmability, individual unit control with on/off, mode, setpoint, room temperature feedback, fan speed, and fault code group objects.

How we use Panasonic

PAC-i H-series VRF: Panasonic PAC-i H-series outdoor units (3-phase inverter, R32 refrigerant on 2023+ models, capacity 8–56kW, COP up to 4.3 heating). Indoor unit types: 4-way cassette (S-36/45/56PY3E), ducted (S-200/250PYE), wall-mount (CS-Z Etherea), ceiling concealed (S-160/200PN2E5B). All indoor units connect to the outdoor via H-LINK II (Panasonic proprietary 2-wire refrigerant control bus). Each indoor unit has an M-NET sub-bus port (2-wire, indoor–indoor communication) for remote controller and BMS adapter connection. The CZ-CAPRA1 plugs into the M-NET port — one adapter per indoor unit. CZ-CAPRA1 KNX adapter: DIN-rail module, 4 modules wide, 24V DC powered (from KNX bus coupler or external PSU). M-NET connection: 2-wire shielded cable (polarity-sensitive) from indoor unit PCB terminal X1A pins 1+2, max 70m. KNX TP bus standard YCYM connection. Individual address assigned in ETS6 (programming button on adapter). ETS6 application download from Panasonic partner portal. Parameters: M-NET indoor unit address (0–15, must match DIP switch on indoor unit PCB), available operation modes, setpoint range 16–30°C, periodic room temperature sending interval, fault code object enable. KNX group objects: On/Off (DPT 1.001), Mode (DPT 20.105: Auto/Heat/Cool/Fan/Dry), Setpoint (DPT 9.001), Room temperature (DPT 9.001, read-only), Fan speed (DPT 5.001), Fault status (DPT 1.001), Fault code (DPT 5.010). Aquarea heat pump integration: Panasonic Aquarea J/K-series (R32, 3–16kW, monobloc and split) also supports CZ-CAPRA1 for KNX integration — same adapter, same ETS6 application. Aquarea KNX group objects add: DHW tank temperature (DPT 9.001), DHW mode (DPT 1.001), defrost active (DPT 1.001), COP feedback (DPT 9.001), energy consumption (DPT 12.001). Aquarea Modbus TCP alternative: CZ-CAPRA1 also supports Modbus TCP mode — for buildings where Modbus BMS (Desigo CC, Trend IQ4) is preferred over KNX. One adapter supports either KNX or Modbus mode (set via parameter in adapter web configuration). Cannot run both simultaneously. Comparison with LGAP Modbus integration: Panasonic CZ-CAPRA1 (native KNX, 1 adapter/unit) vs. LG LGAP Modbus (gateway converts LG F-BUS to Modbus, 1 gateway for multiple units — lower hardware cost for 8+ units). For buildings with 1–8 indoor units: CZ-CAPRA1 per unit preferred (simpler, native KNX, no Modbus gateway). For 12+ units: Intesis LGAP gateway or Panasonic PQNFB17C0 BMS interface may offer lower cost than individual adapters. Both approaches deliver same KNX group objects.

How many CZ-CAPRA1 adapters are needed for a 20-indoor-unit system?

One CZ-CAPRA1 per indoor unit — so 20 adapters for 20 units. Each adapter has its own KNX individual address and set of group objects. All 20 adapters can be on the same KNX TP line (line capacity: 64 devices per line, add line repeater if needed). For cost-sensitive projects with 16+ units, evaluate the Intesis INKNXPAN001I000 gateway which interfaces multiple Panasonic units via one gateway (lower hardware cost, but requires IntesisBox MAPS configuration).

Can CZ-CAPRA1 and a conventional Panasonic remote controller coexist?

Yes — the CZ-CAPRA1 and a CZ-RTC2 remote controller can both be connected to the same M-NET port (via M-NET splitter accessory). Both control the unit simultaneously. KNX setpoint and manual remote controller setpoint compete — last telegram wins. To prevent conflict, disable manual controller adjustment for KNX-controlled zones.

What ETS6 version is required for CZ-CAPRA1?

ETS6 version 6.0 or later (ETS 6.0 supports the ETS6 runtime API used by the Panasonic application). ETS5 is not supported. Download the Panasonic .knxprod file from the Panasonic HVAC partner portal (requires partner registration). The ETS application supports up to ETS6.3.
