Schneider Electric is one of the world's largest energy management companies, with headquarters in Rueil-Malmaison, France. In the context of KNX panels, Schneider contributes three critical component families: the Acti9 and iC60 series circuit protection devices, the iEM3000 series MID-approved energy meters, and the Merten range of KNX devices (power supplies, push-buttons and switches). Together, these cover the protection, metering and KNX automation layers that every panel requires.

How we use Schneider Electric

Schneider's Acti9 is our standard circuit breaker range for 6-module DIN panels — available in 6A to 63A ratings, type B and C characteristics, with auxiliary contacts and iOF signal contacts for integration. The iEM3100/3150/3155 series energy meters support Modbus TCP and RTU communication and carry MID approval for billing-grade measurement — we use these whenever a project requires ISO 50001 energy reporting or tenant sub-metering. The Merten KNX power supply (MTN693003) at 640 mA is a reliable, compact option for panels where Schneider is the primary supplier.

Schneider's role in our panels is primarily in the power and protection layer, not the KNX automation layer. Circuit breakers, RCBOs, RCDs — all sourced from Schneider Acti9. For projects requiring MID-approved energy metering, iEM3155 (with Modbus) is our standard. The Merten MTN power supply provides KNX bus power when Schneider is preferred across the bill of materials. In some projects, Schneider's Wiser KNX gateway bridges the KNX bus to cloud/app control.

Why do you use Schneider circuit breakers instead of Hager or ABB?

We work with Schneider Acti9, Hager Gamma and ABB S200 series — all are high-quality and CE certified. The choice depends on client preference, existing infrastructure, regional availability and pricing. Schneider Acti9 has particularly strong availability in France, Benelux and Southern Europe. We specify the most appropriate brand for each project.

Are Schneider iEM3000 meters MID approved?

Yes. The iEM3150 and iEM3155 carry MID (Measuring Instruments Directive) approval for billing accuracy class B. This is required for legal tenant sub-metering across the EU. For monitoring-only applications (non-billing), non-MID iEM meters are also available at lower cost.

What is the difference between Type A and Type AC RCDs?

Type AC RCDs detect only sinusoidal AC fault currents. Type A detects AC plus pulsating DC fault currents (from variable speed drives, EV chargers, washing machine inverters). Modern regulations in most EU countries now require Type A as a minimum for residential installations. We use Type A as our standard.

Can Schneider Wiser integrate with existing KNX systems?

Yes. The Wiser KNX gateway reads/writes KNX group addresses and exposes them to the Wiser cloud and app. It's compatible with all KNX devices regardless of manufacturer. The gateway connects to the KNX TP bus and to your network via Ethernet.
