Simons Voss (Unterföhring, Germany, founded 1995) manufactures wireless digital access control — SmartHandle AX (handles) and Digital Cylinder 3060 replace mechanical door hardware without electrical wiring, using WaveNet (868MHz mesh) for access event transmission to SmartController.G2. Used in heritage buildings, office refurbishments, and any project where cable installation is impractical. KNX integration via SmartController.G2 relay output to KNX binary input, or WaveNet gateway REST API.

How we use Simons Voss
SmartHandle AX and Digital Cylinder 3060: SmartHandle AX (replaces standard lever handle, battery-powered 2–4 years, RFID 13.56MHz Mifare/DESFire + Bluetooth, WaveNet 868MHz transmission of access events, IP65 for external doors). Digital Cylinder 3060 (replaces euro profile cylinder, battery 2 years, RFID + Bluetooth, WaveNet, used in internal doors and cabinets). Both devices are standalone (no wiring) — programming and event logging via WaveNet radio to SmartController.G2. LSM Business software (Windows, SQL) manages 65,000+ digital locking points, cardholder database, time zones, access logs. SmartController.G2 and KNX: SmartController.G2 (DIN-rail, 24V DC, WaveNet gateway + Ethernet + relay outputs). The SmartController aggregates access events from all WaveNet locking devices and provides: (1) 2 relay outputs (Form C, 2A, configurable for access granted, zone alarm, lockdown). (2) Ethernet port (REST API, Modbus TCP — for software integration). Relay output → KNX binary input: SmartController relay 1 = access granted (pulse 5s) → GA 13/0/0. SmartController relay 2 = zone alarm → GA 13/0/1. ETS6 logic: GA 13/0/0 = 1 → meeting room lighting scene "occupied", HVAC setpoint 21°C. WaveNet gateway REST API: SmartController REST API (HTTP, port 8080, JSON): GET /api/events → returns latest access events. POST /api/locks/{id}/open → remote open a specific lock (for integration with lobby video intercom). Home Assistant integration (simons-voss custom HA component): subscribes to WaveNet events → on access granted → KNX via HA KNX integration. Richer than relay output: event includes lock ID, cardholder name, credential type, timestamp. Use for personalised room temperature on access. Retrofit application in heritage buildings: Simons Voss is the dominant access control brand for German heritage buildings (Denkmalschutz restrictions prevent structural cable runs). Workflow: (1) LSM Business assigns access levels per cardholder. (2) WaveNet SmartHandles communicate events to SmartController.G2. (3) SmartController relay → KNX binary input in existing electrical riser. (4) KNX automates lighting and HVAC on room access without visible wiring changes. GDPR: access logs stored on LSM server (on-premises), not cloud — compliant with German GDPR (BDSG) data retention limits.
Hardware integration via SmartController.G2 relay output to KNX binary input — access granted, alarm, and lockdown events trigger KNX building automation without bus wiring to each lock. WaveNet gateway REST API provides event-rich integration via Home Assistant for personalised HVAC and lighting.

DIN-rail WaveNet 868MHz gateway + Ethernet + 2 relay outputs (Form C, 2A). Aggregates access events from all SmartHandle AX and Digital Cylinder 3060 devices in range (up to 150m with SmartRelay repeaters). Relay outputs configurable in LSM Business for access granted, zone alarm, or lockdown — wire to KNX binary input module for ETS6 automation. REST API (port 8080) for Home Assistant integration.
LSM Business Software
Windows SQL-based access management platform for up to 65,000 digital locking points. Manages cardholder database, access levels, time zone schedules, and SmartController relay output configuration. Access logs stored on-premises — GDPR (BDSG) compliant. SmartRelay configuration for WaveNet mesh coverage planning. Required for SmartController relay output and REST API integration configuration.
SmartIntego Pro
Simons Voss SmartIntego Pro — cylinder and handle variant with OSDP v2 or Wiegand output for integration with IP access controllers (Genetec Synergis, Lenel, Honeywell Pro-Watch). Used in high-security doors within a Simons Voss installation where OSDP controller integration is required alongside WaveNet wireless devices. KNX integration via controller relay output same as standard Simons Voss deployment.

What is the range of WaveNet 868MHz?
Single hop: 30m in office environment (concrete walls). With WaveNet mesh repeaters (SmartRelay): extend coverage to 150m+ through multiple hops. WaveNet is self-healing mesh — if one repeater fails, events route via alternative path. For large buildings: design WaveNet coverage with 20m hop distances for reliable operation through 3–4 concrete floors.
How long do SmartHandle AX batteries last?
SmartHandle AX: 2 years typical with 10–20 daily operations (standard 2× AA lithium). High-traffic doors (50+ daily): 12 months. Replace batteries as prompted by LSM Business low-battery alert (WaveNet transmits battery level to SmartController). Battery replacement: 3 minutes per handle — no programming required after replacement.
Simons Voss vs ASSA ABLOY Aperio for KNX integration?
Both are wireless lock systems. Aperio (Zigbee mesh, hub) is more commonly integrated with KNX via OSDP/Wiegand output from Aperio hub. Simons Voss WaveNet REST API provides richer event data. Aperio has wider installer network in UK and Scandinavia; Simons Voss dominant in DACH. Integration effort with KNX is similar for both systems.
