How we use Sungrow

SH10RT hybrid inverter (10 kW, three-phase): Modbus TCP port 502, unit ID 1. All registers are 16-bit holding type (FC3), but power values use two consecutive registers as a 32-bit big-endian signed int (read as pair). Key registers: 13009 (daily production, uint16, 0.1 kWh), 13010-13011 (total production, uint32, 0.1 kWh), 13022 (battery SOC, uint16, %), 13023-13024 (battery power, int32, W, positive=charge, negative=discharge), 13028 (battery temperature, int16, 0.1°C), 13033-13034 (AC active power, int32, W, positive=export), 13035-13036 (reactive power, kVAR), 13040 (grid frequency, uint16, 0.1 Hz). SBR192 battery module: 6.9 kWh per module, up to 6 in series (41.4 kWh). Battery data accessible via SH inverter Modbus registers — no separate battery Modbus connection needed. KNX integration: MDT Modbus Gateway (IP address of SH inverter, port 502, unit 1). Read task 1: regs 13033-13034 (AC power, 2 regs int32) every 10s. Read task 2: reg 13022 (SOC) every 60s. DPT mapping: AC power → DPT 9.001 kW (divide by 1000), SOC → DPT 5.001 %. SG Ready: Sungrow SH series has digital input terminals (DI1, DI2) for SG Ready state detection — KNX MDT AKD relay drives DI1/DI2 for off-peak forced battery charge and PV surplus boost. Self-consumption: SH10RT built-in self-consumption mode uses internal CT clamp sensor on grid cable; KNX adds higher-level automation (tariff-based, EV charger coordination, multi-load priority).

Sungrow FAQ

Are Sungrow registers 16-bit or 32-bit?

16-bit registers, but energy and power values span TWO consecutive registers as a 32-bit big-endian signed int. Read with FC3 for 2 registers and combine: value = (reg_hi << 16) | reg_lo. For example, AC active power registers 13033-13034: read both with a single FC3 request for 2 registers.

What Modbus TCP port does the Sungrow SH series use?

Port 502 (standard Modbus TCP). Different from KOSTAL PLENTICORE (port 1502) and Huawei FusionSolar (port 6607). Unit ID 1. Confirm in inverter web interface under Settings → Communication → Modbus TCP.

Can I use self-consumption mode without KNX?

Yes — SH10RT has an internal self-consumption mode using a built-in CT clamp sensor on the grid cable. KNX adds multi-device coordination: heat pump SG Ready control, EV charger current throttling, and tariff-based automation (Tibber API integration via Node-RED). KNX does not replace but supplements the inverter's internal self-consumption logic.
