How we use Theben
The TR 608 weather station is a standard component in our premium residential and commercial panels. When blinds, awnings and natural lighting control are part of the project scope, the TR 608 provides the input data — wind alarms to retract awnings, brightness thresholds for sun protection positioning, rain detection for window closing. Theben's LUNO presence detectors with KNX interface provide the occupancy input for HVAC and lighting control in offices, meeting rooms and corridors.
Theben provides the sensing and scheduling layer in our panels. The TR 608 weather station connects directly to the KNX bus and transmits all sensor values as KNX datapoints — no gateway needed. LUNO presence detectors send occupancy and brightness data to the KNX bus, triggering HVAC setback, lighting scenes and fan coil setpoints. For time-based automation without a visualisation server, Theben's AMUN KNX time switch provides local schedule storage with astronomical calculation.

Why is the TR 608 considered the best KNX weather station?
The TR 608 measures all relevant outdoor parameters in a single robust IP65 housing: wind speed (with configurable alarm threshold for blind retraction), rain presence, brightness from three directions (allows independent east/west/south blind control), twilight and temperature. It connects directly to the KNX bus without a gateway. Competing products often measure fewer parameters or require a separate gateway. For projects with exterior blinds or awnings, TR 608 is the professional standard.
How does occupancy detection improve energy efficiency?
In a typical office building, 30–40% of energy is consumed in unoccupied areas. LUNO presence detectors trigger HVAC setback (from 21°C to 18°C in empty rooms), switch off lighting, and can delay heating/cooling by 30 minutes after occupancy ends. KNX logic (via MDT GLK or HomeServer) calculates energy savings per zone. Buildings achieving ISO 50001 certification typically use this combination of Theben sensors and KNX energy management.
Can TR 608 weather data control blinds from multiple brands?
Yes. The TR 608 sends standard KNX datapoints — wind speed, rain status, brightness values — to any KNX actuator. Hager TXA612B, ABB JAL/S, MDT blind actuators all respond to the same KNX group addresses. The TR 608 is completely brand-agnostic on the output side.
Where should the TR 608 be physically installed?
On the roof or facade, above any obstructions, with clear 360° sky exposure for the wind cup anemometer and rain sensor. The brightness sensors should be pointed in the relevant cardinal directions. The TR 608 requires a 12–30V DC power supply (usually the KNX power supply via an auxiliary output) and a KNX TP connection. We specify the exact installation location during the panel design phase.
