Tridonic (Dornbirn, Austria — part of Zumtobel Group) is one of Europe's leading manufacturers of LED drivers and lighting control components. While end users rarely see the Tridonic name on a panel, their DALI-2 certified LED drivers are inside millions of European luminaires. When a KNX or DALI-2 project specifies 'DALI-2 certified luminaires', there is a good chance Tridonic components are doing the work inside the fixture.

How we use Tridonic
Tridonic manufactures the full chain of DALI-2 lighting control: LED drivers (basicDIM, Excite, SiC series), DALI-2 push-button interfaces, DALI-2 occupancy and daylight sensors, and the MSP/LCP lighting controller for standalone or networked DALI-2 operation. Their Tune WHITE product line enables dynamic colour temperature adjustment (2700K–6500K) across the full dimming range — the technology behind 'human-centric lighting' in offices and healthcare. All Tridonic DALI-2 products are DALI-2 certified by the DiiA organisation.
In our panels, Tridonic drivers appear as the DALI-2 ECG (Electronic Control Gear) load — the individual device on the DALI-2 bus that the DALI-2 gateway or controller addresses. The integration path: KNX binary output or scene telegram → KNX-DALI-2 gateway (e.g. Hager, MDT) → DALI-2 bus → Tridonic driver inside luminaire → LED strip or module dims/colours. For Tune WHITE projects, the DALI-2 gateway sends both arc power (brightness) and colour temperature commands as DALI-2 extended commands (DT8).

basicDIM Wireless
Wireless DALI-2 LED driver. Combines DALI-2 wired bus + wireless control (Casambi or Bluetooth). Used in retrofit projects where running DALI-2 bus cable is not practical. DALI-2 certified.
Excite DALI-2 35W
High-efficiency DALI-2 constant current driver, 350–1050mA output. Full DALI-2 Part 209 (DT8) colour temperature support. Standard driver choice for Tune WHITE human-centric lighting installations.
SiC Constant Voltage 24V
DALI-2 constant voltage driver for LED strips. 24V DC, up to 100W, DALI-2 certified. Used for architectural LED strip installations requiring DALI-2 addressable dimming per zone.
TOUCHPANEL 5 DALI-2
5-button DALI-2 push-button interface. Scene recall, relative dimming, group assignment via DALI-2 addressing. Flush-mount with standard frame compatibility.
MSP (Multi Sensor)
DALI-2 combined presence and daylight sensor. Occupancy detection + lux measurement. Reports to DALI-2 controller for presence-adaptive and daylight harvesting automation.
LCP DALI-2 Controller
Standalone DALI-2 multi-master controller. Manages 64 DALI-2 ECGs per output, scene storage, time scheduling. Compact DIN-rail form factor — alternative to Helvar Router for smaller installations.
Tridonic FAQ
Do I specify Tridonic in the panel, or is it inside the luminaire?
Tridonic drivers are typically specified as part of the luminaire, not the panel. However, for custom LED strip installations or bespoke architectural lighting, we specify and mount Tridonic DALI-2 drivers in the panel or in junction boxes. The panel BOM will list the DALI-2 gateway/controller; the luminaire spec lists the driver brand.
What is Tune WHITE and how is it controlled via DALI-2?
Tune WHITE is Tridonic's branded colour temperature tuning technology. The driver handles two LED channels (warm white + cool white) and mixes them to produce any colour temperature between 2700K and 6500K. Control is via DALI-2 DT8 (Device Type 8 — colour) extended commands from a DALI-2 controller. The KNX-DALI-2 gateway translates KNX colour temperature group addresses into DT8 DALI-2 commands.
Is basicDIM Wireless DALI-2 certified?
Yes — basicDIM Wireless carries full DALI-2 certification from DiiA. It supports both wired DALI-2 commands and wireless Bluetooth/Casambi control simultaneously. In a KNX project, the wired DALI-2 path is used for primary control; the wireless path provides app-based override and commissioning convenience.
Can Tridonic DALI-2 drivers work with any DALI-2 controller (Helvar, MDT, Hager)?
Yes — DALI-2 certification guarantees interoperability. A Tridonic DALI-2 driver will work with any DALI-2 certified controller (Helvar Router 950, MDT DALI gateway, Hager TXA208D, etc.) without any special configuration. This is the core benefit of the DALI-2 standard over proprietary systems.
