Trilux

Commercial LED luminaires with DALI-2 for KNX office and industrial lighting control

Trilux (Arnsberg, Germany, founded 1912) produces LED luminaires for office, industrial, and retail applications — E-Line Next trunking and Sonnos panels are specified in large-scale office fit-outs. Full DALI-2 compliance across the product range enables KNX integration via standard DALI gateways.

Role in our panels

How we use Trilux

The E-Line Next LED trunking system is Trilux's flagship product for open-plan offices. Available in 600mm, 900mm, and 1200mm lengths, E-Line Next uses a tool-free suspension and snap-in module system — luminaire modules (direct/indirect, DT8 tunable white) are inserted into the aluminium track with snap connectors and DALI-2 auto-addressing. Plug-and-play pendant or surface mounting reduces installation time compared to traditional pendant luminaires. The 1200mm E-Line Next module (sku TLX-ENEXT12) delivers up to 10000 lm with DT8 tunable white (3000-6500K) and DALI-2 Device Type 8 for colour temperature control from KNX. DALI-2 addressing and KNX-DALI gateway setup: Trilux DALI-2 luminaires connect to any DALI-2 compliant gateway. The ABB DA/S 12.16.1 (DALI-2 gateway for 12 DALI lines, 16 devices per line) is commonly used with Trilux in large office projects. ETS6 application for DA/S: import DALI bus configuration (DALI commissioning tool auto-assigns short addresses), assign KNX group addresses to each DALI group or individual device. KNX DPTs to Trilux luminaires: DPT 5.001 (0-100% brightness), DPT 18.001 (scene recall 0-15), DPT 9.001 (colour temperature in K for DT8 Tc tunable white models). Gira DALI Pro 2 is an alternative DALI-2 gateway used in Gira-specified projects. EN 12464-1 compliant lux level scheduling is achievable with Trilux luminaires via DALI constant light control (CLC). A ceiling-mounted photosensor (DALI-2 Device Type 303 input device) measures actual lux at the measurement plane and provides closed-loop feedback to the DALI-2 gateway — the gateway adjusts DALI arc power to maintain the target illuminance regardless of daylight contribution. EN 12464-1 targets for office: 500 lux at task area (desk surface), 300 lux at ambient (general room), 200 lux at circulation areas. CLC reduces energy consumption by 20-40% versus constant-output systems in daylit offices. Trilux lumiDays is Trilux's own lighting management system (sensor-based presence and daylight control, configurable via lumiDays portal). lumiDays operates at DALI bus level independently of KNX — it manages presence detection and constant light control using its own DALI sensors. When both KNX DALI gateway (for manual control, scenes, KNX integration) and lumiDays (for automatic presence and CLC) are present on the same DALI bus, the two systems coexist without conflict: lumiDays operates on automatic mode inputs while KNX DALI gateway handles manual override commands. The DALI-2 priority system (manual command from gateway overrides lumiDays automation) ensures KNX manual commands take precedence.

Trilux DALI-2 luminaires (E-Line Next, Sonnos, Amatris, Lineo G2) connect to KNX via standard DALI-2 gateways. ABB DA/S 12.16.1 DALI-2 gateway: ETS6 application imports DALI bus configuration, assigns KNX GAs to each DALI group or individual device. KNX commands to Trilux luminaires: DPT 5.001 (0-100% brightness), DPT 18.001 (scene recall), DPT 9.001 (colour temperature K for DT8 Tc-capable models). Trilux E-Line Next with DT8 tunable white: KNX drives colour temperature 3000-6500K for circadian rhythm lighting. EN 12464-1 target: 500 lux task area (desk), 300 lux ambient (ceiling bounce), 200 lux circulation — achieved via DALI constant light control with ceiling-mounted photosensor.

Key components we install

TLX-ENEXT12LED Trunking

E-Line Next 1200

1200mm LED trunking module, DALI-2 Device Type 6 (tunable white DT8 Tc), 3000-6500K colour temperature range, up to 10000 lm. Snap-in module system with auto-addressing on DALI bus (no manual short address assignment). Direct/indirect light distribution versions. EasyFix mounting system (tool-free track suspension). Power: 220-240V AC, integrated power supply. KNX control: brightness DPT 5.001 + colour temperature DPT 9.001 via DALI-2 gateway. Certified DALI-2 IEC 62386 Part 207.

TLX-SONNOSLED Panel

Sonnos LED 625

Trilux FAQ

Does Trilux support DALI-2 across all product ranges?

Yes — all current Trilux products are DALI-2 compliant with IEC 62386 Part 207/209 as appropriate. Trilux phased out legacy DALI (DALI-1) across the range by 2022. DALI-2 adds IEC 62386 Part 250+ input device support (sensors, pushbuttons) and mandatory compatibility testing — ensuring interoperability with any DALI-2 certified gateway (ABB, Gira, Helvar, Tridonic). Previous DALI-1 Trilux luminaires remain backward compatible with DALI-2 gateways.

Can Trilux luminaires be controlled directly by KNX without a DALI gateway?

No — a KNX-DALI gateway (ABB, Gira, Helvar) is always required. Trilux has no KNX bus device — there is no KNX TP connection directly to any Trilux luminaire. The DALI-2 bus is the luminaire control interface; KNX sends commands to the DALI gateway, which translates and transmits DALI telegrams to luminaires. The KNX-DALI gateway is a standard component in any KNX lighting project specifying DALI luminaires.

Does Trilux lumiDays conflict with KNX DALI control?

lumiDays can coexist with KNX — KNX DALI gateway controls scenes and dimming; lumiDays manages daylight harvesting and presence logic on a separate system level. On the DALI-2 bus, DALI-2 priority rules apply: a direct arc power command from the KNX gateway overrides lumiDays automatic control until the next lumiDays sensor cycle. In practice, KNX manual commands (pushbutton press) take immediate effect; lumiDays resumes automatic control after a configurable override timeout (typically 30-60 minutes).
