Panel mounting

The Hub 2 Plus ships with a back plate for direct wall or enclosure mounting. A separate DIN rail adapter bracket (Ajax article 99131) allows mounting in a standard 35 mm DIN rail enclosure alongside PSU, MCBs, and KNX devices.

DIN rail mounting requirements

DIN rail adapter (Ajax 99131):
Occupies: 9 DIN modules (162 mm) on 35 mm rail
Depth behind rail: 72 mm — verify enclosure depth

Cable entry clearance:
Bottom: 60 mm free space below hub for Fibra + power cables
Right side: 30 mm for Ethernet + USB-C routing
SIM card access: top-right, requires 20 mm clearance with lid open

Mounting position:
Upright only (antenna orientation fixed in housing)
Do NOT mount horizontally — battery ventilation path blocked

Adjacent device spacing:
Minimum 50 mm from other heat-generating devices (PSU, relays)
Keep away from steel cable conduit running parallel —
can attenuate 868 MHz Jeweller RF by up to 12 dB

Enclosure recommendation:
Rittal AX, ABB TwinLine, or equivalent IK10 rated
  Minimum internal depth: 150 mm
Grounded enclosure body (hub DIN rail adapter is floating)

Tamper wire: the Hub 2 Plus back plate tamper switch must be connected to the enclosure door or wall — an open tamper input triggers a tamper alarm immediately. Commission the tamper connection before handing the system to the end client.

Communication channels and failover

Hub 2 Plus uses Ethernet as the primary communication channel to Ajax Cloud. SIM1 and SIM2 provide cellular failover. Communication priority and failover timers are configurable per installation requirement.

ChannelPriorityFailover triggerDefault timer
Ethernet1 (primary)Link down or no cloud ACK30 seconds
SIM1 (4G/3G)2 (first fallback)SIM1 no registration or data fail60 seconds
SIM2 (4G/2G)3 (second fallback)SIM2 no registration or data fail60 seconds

For EN 50136-1 Grade 2 and Grade 3 dual-path compliance, Ethernet and at least one active SIM must be connected. The hub reports communication channel changes as events to the monitoring station — a channel switch always generates an event log entry visible in Ajax PRO app and CMS.

Power supply

The Hub 2 Plus requires an external 12V DC supply. It accepts 6–28V DC, but 12V is the standard operating voltage. The USB-C port on the hub is for initial configuration and firmware update only — it cannot power the hub for normal operation.

Power supply and battery backup calculation

Hub 2 Plus power consumption:
  Standby (Ethernet + 1 SIM active): 130 mA at 12V = 1.56 W
  Full load (alarm + GSM transmitting): ~300 mA at 12V = 3.6 W

Fibra line power draw (example install):
  Fibra Line 1: 40 × DoorProtect Fibra @ 0.85 mA = 34 mA
  Fibra Line 2: 20 × MotionProtect Fibra @ 0.85 mA = 17 mA
  Fibra Line 3: 2 × StreetSiren Fibra @ 2.5 mA = 5 mA
  Fibra Line 4: 1 × Relay Fibra + 1 × KeyPad Fibra = 5 mA
  Total Fibra: 61 mA

Total system standby current: 130 + 61 = 191 mA at 12V

PSU selection:
  Minimum: 12V / 500 mA (0.5 A) — basic installations
  Recommended: 12V / 1 A — with Fibra devices
EN 54-4 compliant PSU if integrated into fire panel

Built-in battery (3200 mAh at 3.7V = 11.84 Wh):
At 12V / 191 mA standby: ~18 hours backup (spec confirmed)
At alarm load 300 mA: ~12 hours

Note: Fibra devices have their own local backup batteries
separately from the hub battery. Hub battery = hub only.

Zone configuration in Ajax app

Zones in Ajax correspond to individual devices or wired inputs on a MultiTransmitter. Each zone is assigned a reaction type, a group (partition), and entry/exit delay timing. Zone configuration is done in Ajax PRO Desktop or Ajax Security Manager app after devices are added.

Zone reaction types — configuration reference

Reaction types (per zone):
Alarm — triggers full alarm immediately
Delayed — starts entry delay timer before alarm
Delayed (Entry + Exit) — for entry/exit routes
24-Hour — always active, bypasses arm state
                   (panic buttons, smoke detectors, tampers)
Perimeter — active in Armed Away + Night modes
Interior — active in Armed Away only, bypassed in Night mode

Entry/Exit delay (per group/partition):
Entry delay: 10–120 seconds (keypad or app disarm required)
Exit delay: 10–120 seconds (devices bypassed during exit)

Partitions (Groups):
Up to 9 groups (partitions) per hub
  Each group arms/disarms independently
Useful for: office hours vs server room 24h vs car park

WallSwitch / Relay Fibra — output zone types:
Output relay activates on alarm, arm, or custom scenario
Scenarios created in Ajax → Automation → add rule
Example: Relay Fibra output → door strike release on disarm

Grounding and EMC

Proper grounding prevents false alarms from induced interference and protects Fibra line electronics. In commercial installations with VFDs (variable frequency drives), inductive loads or fluorescent lighting, grounding discipline is critical.

Fibra cable shielding and EMC rules

Shielded Fibra cable grounding:
Ground shield at HUB END only (single-point grounding)
Leave shield FLOATING at device end
Double grounding = ground loop → interference on data line

Separation from 230V mains cables:
Minimum 50 mm separation (unshielded Fibra)
Minimum 10 mm separation (shielded Fibra in separate conduit)
Cross 230V cables at 90° only — never run parallel over 0.5 m

Enclosure grounding:
Hub DIN rail adapter is NOT bonded to rail automatically
Connect PE wire from enclosure rail to hub 12V GND terminal
This bonds hub ground to enclosure PE, reducing common-mode noise

VFD/motor drive environments:
  Use shielded STP cable throughout
Keep Fibra runs away from motor cable trays
Add ferrite cores on Fibra cable entry at hub (Wurth 742 721 series)

Hub RF antenna:
Hub 2 Plus has internal antenna — do NOT enclose in steel box
Use a plastic ABS enclosure, or steel enclosure with remote
antenna cable (Ajax sells external antenna adapter separately)

SIM card configuration — European carriers

Data SIMs with a fixed APN must be configured in the hub for reliable cellular failover. Ajax Hub 2 Plus sends APN settings via the app — no physical SIM card menu is required. Use machine-to-machine (M2M) SIMs where possible for better long-term contract stability.
