Zennio ZAS-AUDIO8B: 8-Zone KNX Amplifier Configuration and Scene Programming
The Zennio ZAS-AUDIO8B is an 8-channel 2x25W KNX-native DIN rail amplifier with full ETS6 parameterisation — covering source selection, zone volume, bass, treble, balance, mute, IR remote mapping, and scene recall across all eight zones simultaneously.
ZAS-AUDIO8B Overview
The Zennio ZAS-AUDIO8B is an 8-channel stereo KNX amplifier (2x25W RMS per zone, 8 ohm), DIN rail mounted (8TE), powered from 90-240VAC via integrated PSU. It supports up to 4 line-level audio sources (RCA or 3.5mm) switchable per zone via KNX. All control — power, source, volume, bass, treble, balance, mute — is fully KNX-native with ETS6 parameterisation.
ETS6 Parameterisation
Import Zennio ZAS-AUDIO8B from ETS Online Catalog (product number ZAA-AUD8Z). Parameter pages in ETS6:
General tab: enable/disable each zone independently. Set zone default source (1-4) at power-up. Enable/disable IR receiver for each zone (allow or block remote control of individual zones).
Zone N tab (repeat for zones 1-8):
| Object | DPT | Example GA (Zone 1) |
|---|---|---|
| Power object | DPT 1.001 (1-bit) | 5/0/1 |
| Source selection object | DPT 5.010 (1-byte unsigned, 1-4) | 5/0/2 |
| Volume object | DPT 5.001 (1-byte %, 0-100) | 5/0/3 |
| Volume step (+/-) | DPT 1.007 (step up/down) | 5/0/4 |
| Mute object | DPT 1.001 | 5/0/5 |
| Treble | DPT 6.001 (signed -7 to +7) | 5/0/6 |
| Bass | DPT 6.001 (signed -7 to +7) | 5/0/7 |
| Balance | DPT 6.001 (signed -50 to +50) | 5/0/8 |
Source Wiring
Source 1-4 use rear panel RCA inputs (labelled LINE IN 1-4). Connect line-level sources: Source 1 = NAS/streaming server (Volumio Raspberry Pi line out), Source 2 = TV audio out, Source 3 = Bluetooth receiver (Nobsound B10 analog out), Source 4 = doorbell station audio.
Source impedance: ZAS-AUDIO8B input impedance 22k ohm — compatible with all standard line-level sources. Cable: screened RCA, maximum 5m from source to amplifier for noise-free audio.
Zone Speaker Wiring
Each zone has two speaker output terminals (L+ L- and R+ R-) for a stereo pair. For ceiling speakers (8 ohm nominal): direct connection, 2x1.5mm2 speaker cable (white/red and white/black colour coding per zone). Maximum speaker cable run from amplifier: 15m at 2x1.5mm2 (higher resistance reduces damping factor). For longer runs up to 40m: use 2x2.5mm2.
Multiple speakers per zone (parallel wiring): two 8-ohm speakers in parallel = 4-ohm load — ZAS-AUDIO8B minimum load is 4 ohm per channel. More than two parallel 8-ohm speakers requires 100V line transformer topology (not built into ZAS-AUDIO8B — requires external transformer).
Impedance warning: three 8-ohm speakers wired in parallel produce a 2.67 ohm load per channel — below the ZAS-AUDIO8B minimum. This can cause thermal shutdown or permanent amplifier damage. Use impedance-matching volume controls (doubling type) or a 100V line system for installations requiring more than two speakers per zone.
Scene Integration
ETS6 Scene object uses DPT 18.001 (1-byte, scenes 1-64). Each scene number maps to a stored configuration of all 8 zones (power state, source, volume for each zone). Configure scenes in ETS6 parameter tab 'Scenes':
Trigger: KNX scene GA 0/0/10 (DPT 18.001) connected to ZAS-AUDIO8B scene object. The same GA can be triggered from an MDT wall panel scene button or from a KNX HVAC presence detection block (lights off + HVAC setback + audio off all via a single scene telegram).
IR Remote Zone Control
ZAS-AUDIO8B has an IR receiver input per zone (3.5mm stereo jack, 12V output for active IR eye). Connect the Zennio ZIR-AUDIO infrared receiver (surface-mount, 3.5mm cable) to the zone IR input. Supported IR remote: any NEC-protocol remote programmed with the Zennio ZAS code library.
IR commands are zone-local — pointing the remote at zone 3's IR eye controls zone 3 only, even if all zones share the same GA for source selection. Disable IR for zones not requiring local control in ETS6 to prevent accidental volume changes.
IR eye placement
Mount the ZIR-AUDIO IR eye flush in the wall near the listening position — typically 130cm from floor. Avoid placement behind glass or frosted panels. Maximum cable run from ZAS-AUDIO8B IR input to IR eye: 10m using the supplied 3.5mm extension cable.
KNX vs IR precedence
When IR and KNX both address the same zone, the last command wins. A KNX scene recall overrides any IR-set volume immediately. Design scenes to include explicit volume values for all relevant zones to ensure predictable behaviour after IR use.
