NAS & storage

NAS & storage covers network-attached storage appliances that centralise files, backups and video recordings for a home or small office network.

Bay count sets raw and RAID-protected capacity, while CPU and RAM determine whether the unit can also run virtual machines, containers or real-time video transcoding; a Ryzen-class processor with 16–32 GB of RAM handles heavier multi-user workloads than an entry-level ARM model. Network interface speed, from 1GbE up to 10GbE, becomes the bottleneck once multiple clients read or write simultaneously.

  • Bay count — more bays give more raw capacity and RAID redundancy headroom, from 2-bay desktop units to 12-bay rack servers
  • CPU & RAM — higher-end processors and 16 GB+ RAM support virtualization and real-time video transcoding
  • Network interface — 2.5GbE or 10GbE ports avoid becoming the bottleneck with multiple simultaneous clients
