The right category depends on the building, the client's priorities and what's actually accessible — not on which system is fashionable.

Wired bus systems

Protocols like KNX need dedicated cabling installed during new-build or major renovation — more upfront labour, but no batteries to maintain and no RF interference or coverage planning to manage.

Wireless ecosystems

Zigbee, Thread, Wi-Fi and Matter avoid chasing walls, making them the practical route for occupied-building retrofits — in exchange for battery replacement cycles, RF interference in dense builds and coverage planning.

Local-first vs cloud-dependent control

A local hub keeps core lighting, climate and security automations running without an internet connection; voice-assistant integration and some remote-access apps still need it.

Mixed and bridged installations

Wired backbone for core circuits plus wireless for retrofit zones or later additions, connected through a gateway, is a legitimate and common pattern — not a compromise.

Panel assembly discipline stays the same
