We walk the site and decide, camera by camera, whether the job is visible deterrence, discreet coverage, or active remote monitoring of a large area — that decision drives every camera choice that follows.
Pick camera type and lens
Bullet for a visible exterior deterrent, dome or turret for discreet interior and entrance coverage, PTZ where an operator needs remote pan-tilt-zoom over a larger site — with motorized-lens variants where the exact mounting distance isn't locked in yet.
Choose NVR or 5-in-1 XVR
A clean IP install gets a Safire NVR. A site with existing coax of unknown or mixed standard gets a Safire XVR instead, so HDTVI, HDCVI, AHD, CVBS and IP can all land on the same recorder without a full re-cable.
Size the recorder and hand over access
We check PoE port count against camera count, channel count against camera count, and the storage plan against the model's actual datasheet — then set up SCC for remote access before handover.

Safire's XVR accepts HDTVI, HDCVI, AHD, CVBS and IP on the same box — the reason it's worth specifying on a site where you don't yet know, or can't fully trust, what standard the existing coax plant is running.

Bullet cameras are visible and directional — a deliberate deterrent for exteriors. Dome and turret cameras are discreet and suit interiors and entrances where a less obvious camera is preferred. PTZ adds remote pan-tilt-zoom for larger sites under active monitoring, less common in residential work.
Motorized lens where flexibility pays off
Select Safire models let you adjust the zoom angle remotely after mounting, instead of committing to a fixed-lens SKU based on a distance measured before the camera is even on the wall — useful when you'd rather stock fewer variants.

NVR is Safire's IP-only recorder. XVR is the '5-in-1' hybrid that takes HDTVI, HDCVI, AHD, CVBS and IP simultaneously — the option to reach for when a multi-tenant or multi-phase site has coax whose exact analog standard nobody can confirm.
Sizing that starts with PoE and channels, not guesswork
Camera count against PoE port count, camera count against channel count — both checked against the specific NVR's rated capacity. Retention time always depends on configuration: resolution, bitrate, compression, motion settings and drive capacity, so we check the datasheet rather than quote a number upfront.
ONVIF interop, scoped honestly
Safire IP cameras and NVRs generally support ONVIF for basic cross-brand video streaming, and the SCC app gives remote viewing and management without router port-forwarding hassle — but the full SCC ecosystem is built around Safire NVR/XVR paired with Safire cameras, not a mixed-brand stack.

What's the real difference between a Safire NVR and XVR?
NVR is IP-only — it works with network cameras and nothing else. XVR is the '5-in-1' hybrid recorder: one box that accepts HDTVI, HDCVI, AHD, CVBS and IP signals simultaneously. XVR earns its keep on a site where the existing coax plant's exact analog standard is unknown or mixed, so you're not forced into a full re-cable to IP.
Can bullet, dome and PTZ cameras run on the same recorder?
Yes — camera type is a mounting and optics choice, not a recorder-compatibility issue. What matters for the recorder is the signal type (HDTVI, HDCVI, AHD, CVBS or IP) and, for IP cameras on an NVR, whether the channel and PoE port counts cover what you're installing.
How many days of footage will a Safire NVR/XVR store?
It depends on configuration — resolution, bitrate, compression, motion-detection settings and installed drive capacity all move that number. We don't quote a fixed retention figure; we check it against the specific model's datasheet once those variables are set.
Does ONVIF support mean I can pair Safire cameras with another brand's NVR?
ONVIF gets you basic cross-brand video streaming, which is genuinely useful for interoperability. But the full feature set of the SCC ecosystem — the part that makes remote management and monitoring convenient — is built for Safire NVR/XVR paired with Safire cameras, not any ONVIF-compliant box on the market.
Is Safire a real alternative to Hikvision or Dahua, or a compromise?
It's an honest value-tier line, not a feature-for-feature match to every SKU those two make. Safire covers core CCTV functionality — camera types, 5-in-1 recording, PoE, full-color night vision, remote access via SCC — at a lower price point. If a project needs a specific advanced feature only a Hikvision or Dahua model offers, we say so rather than force-fit Safire.
